give-thanks

Here we are in November and that means that here in the states we will be celebrating Thanksgiving.  Pumpkins, corn stocks, and sunflowers are the staple to decorate our home.  Here at the Sew Incredibly Crazy household, we have a round dining room table, and I am always looking for something that will work well as a center piece for the table. Table runner always seem to hang to long on the edges.  So why have a rectangle runner for a circular table? Yes, crazy I agree.  I decided to make a primitive flower with the simple saying of “Give Thanks”

To create this, you will need:

Heat n Bond® Lite
HeatnBond® Ultra hold
4 Fat Quarters of Fabric
Sew-In High Loft Fleece
12 buttons
Oliso Smart Touch Iron
Coordinating Embroidery Floss

Project instructions:

Start by folding your background fabric with right sides facing.  Pin to your Sew-In High Loft Fleece.  Make a 20″ diameter circle on your fabric.  You can do this by using a large round platter as a template.  Cut out all three layers.  Sew a 1/4″ around the edge.  Leave an opening large enough to turn right side out.  Hand stitch the opening closed.  You can topstitch around the circle. (I did that, and after completing the next step, the seam ripper and I had a lot of fun removing it fro the edge.)  Stitching around the edge is optional.

Take a piece of your  Heat n Bond® Lite, cut a circle slightly smaller than that of the backing piece.     Iron the interfacing  to the wrong side of your petal color.  Cut around the edge of the interfacing to resemble petal shapes, or waves.  You can also draw on the paper backing of the flower if you feel more comfortable.  After you have cut out the flower, iron it to the background circle sandwich you made earlier.  Applique stitch around the flower.

step-1-flower

Iron on a square piece of Heat n Bond® Lite,, to the wrong side of your flower center fabric. Use a circle cutter, or a bowl as a template to create the center the desired diameter.  Cut the circle out.  Remove paper backing and iron to the center of your flower.

Applique stitch around the flower center.

For the letters, you can hand cut them like I usually do, or a cutting machine that will handle fabric would work perfect.  Trace the letter reverse way on to your HeatnBond® Ultra hold. Iron onto the wrong side of your fabric.

Cut out your letters and iron on to the desired area.  You will not have to applique stitch the letters down when you use the HeatnBond® Ultra hold.  It will have a bond between the two fabrics to not require stitching.

Add your desired embellishments and Enjoy!!
