Fashion Friday with Therm O Web

It’s Friday…and you know what that means? If you said Fashion Friday…you are right! Designer Kristen Wright is going to show you how easy it is to sew with our HeatnBond Soft Stretch to great some fun Knit Boys Outfits!

Guys. I just cannot gush enough over how amazing our new soft stretch fusible is! I love sewing with knits but sometimes I’m not confident enough with how to sew with it. My struggle is always with the hem and bands. I’ve found that adding soft stretch to my knit game has really made me more comfortable and has helped me create much more “finished” looking projects!

Girl Charlee was so kind to send me a few of their amazing knits to work with and I just knew they’d be perfect for an outfit for my one year old! We are moving to England next month and although this outfit is a bit warm for Texas it’ll be a perfect staple in Europe.

Knit Boys Outfit Instructions:

Brindille and Twig patterns are by far my favorite. They are easy to follow and provide photos to go with each step! It really helps take the guessing out of it! I prewashed my fabric and ironed it really well before I began to cut. I laid out my pattern pieces for both outfits on each fabric and cut them out.

Whenever I’m making a knit outfit I like to serge as much as I can. I find that the knit does so great with my serger. If you don’t have a serger a regular machine works great, just don’t forget to use the correct type of needle and use a lightening bolt stitch.

The other place I added soft stretch was to the waist of my pants before I sewed the button hole and folded it over to create the casing for my drawstring. This is something I do with anything I’m adding a button hole to or an edge that I need to have a little more stability to it. I found that it helps with hemming and really does create a much more crisp edge. Soft stretch really gives the knit a stability when being sewn.

I’m so happy with how these turned out! I love making clothes for my son because he is a long and lean boy which means he doesn’t fit in most pants. These pants will be able to grow with him for a little bit and makes me proud to see him rocking something mama made!!IMG_6981 IMG_6983What are you sewing up with soft stretch?? If you start now, you will have tons for #memademay next year! (goals right??)

Happy sewing!
