Fall Pumpkin Potholder Pattern Instructions:
1/4″ seam allowance
Start by cutting the orange fabrics in 1 1/2″ strips. Sew together. On the top center, sew a 5″ x 6″, green piece on.
Trace the pumpkin stem on a piece of HeatnBond Lite. Iron on to the piece of green fabric. Cut around the piece. Save back for a bit. Position the pumpkin template as shown. Iron the fabric stem onto the pumpkin, noting where the pumpkin body is.
Cut around the pumpkin body and fabric stem.
Double over your HeatnBond Fusible Fleece. Cut two fleece pumpkin pieces, 1/4″ smaller than the fabric one. Fuse one to the back of the pumpkin. Quilt with Aurifil 12 wt. thread. Use a longer stitch when using this weight. Trace the heart on the HeatnBond lite. Iron to the wrong side of the red fabric. Cut out the shape. Iron heart to the desired location of the pumpkin.
Applique stitch around the heart and the bottom of the stem. Place the pumpkin face down onto the right side of the back fabric.
Cut out pumpkin back and pin together. Sew around the pumpkin, leaving a 3-inch opening. Iron on the second piece of your HeatnBond Fusible Fleece to the back of your pumpkin. Clip corner around the pumpkin. Turn right side out and topstitch all the way around your pumpkin, securing your opening.

September 21, 2017 at 1:14 pm (7 years ago)Love this, have a bunch of short 1.5″ orange strips left over from easter and last fall. Think I will sew them together in a jelly roll jam fashion. Cutting scrappy strips for the pumpkin shape and adding the sweet heart will make an adorable heat/pot holder. I will be adding isu-lbright to the pot holder to make it heat resistant. My daughter in law and BFF’s will love getting one of these.
