Hi! It’s Amanda from Jedi Craft Girl! I love fall, fall fabrics, foxes, hedghogs, squirrels, leaves, pumpkins AND Jennifer Jangle’s quilt and fabric (available from In the Beginning Fabrics) and patterns “A Walk in the Woods”. This quilt is inspired from her fabulous fabrics and applique patterns. I used her darling images and arranged them to fit in this throw size quilt. Here’s how you can make one:
Begin by cutting an assortment of fall fabrics into 7″ squares. Assemble them into “9-Patches” by laying them out like this:
Sew the squares together in rows using 1/4″ seams. Press seams alternately. Then join rows together and press. Make 4 nine-patch blocks.
Once they are pressed, cut down the center from top to bottom and from side to side like this (sorry this picture is from a Halloween quilt, but the same technique)
Cut off-white or cream fabric into strips 2.5″ wide x the width of the finished block. Join blocks together like this with a cream strip in between each block. Press toward the dark.
Continue doing this until you have all the blocks sashed together. Then cut 2.5″ x WOF strips and piece them together until they are the length of the strip sets. Sew the strips in between the rows and press.
Leave a space in between the 3rd and 4th row for the applique piece. For the applique piece, cut a piece of off-white fabric 12″x the length of the strip sets. Using Jennifer Jangle’s applique and Heat n Bond® Lite, applique the pieces according to the Heat n Bond® Lite instructions. Top stitch around each piece two times with dark brown thread. Add a 1.75″ strip on the top and bottom of the applique piece, the fit it in to the rest of the quilt. Add the cream sides. Cut the boarder 5.5″ x WOF – you will need to piece the sides.
