Fall Coffee Mug Rug Tutorial

Hi all! Alicia here from Sew What Alicia. I am SO ready for pumpkin everything and I can’t hide it! Today I am sharing a mug rug tutorial with you using Deco Foil™ which is another thing with which I am absolutely obsessed!

Fall Coffee Mug Rug Tutorial

Supplies:

Deco Foil™ – Black, Pumpkin, and Amber Watercolor

Deco Foil™ Hot Melt Adhesive

Coffee Cup Template (The dotted lines indicate where the images will overlap.)

2 – 5.5″ Fabric Squares and Scraps of Fabric

Decorative Ribbon

Instructions:

Print and cut out the template. Then trace it onto the paper side of the adhesive sheet. Cut the image out of the adhesive sheet. You will also cut a 5.5″ square out of the adhesive.

Using a laminator attach the adhesive to one of the fabric squares. Attach the coffee appliqué pieces to scraps of fabric that are at least as big as the adhesive. Use your laminator again to attach foil to each of the pieces. I used orange for the mug, black for the square, and amber watercolor for the whip cream topping.

Trim the coffee mug pieces up and you are ready to attach them to the black background.

Attach them using your preferred method. This zig zag stitch is fun and adds a fun decorative touch.

You can add some scraps of StitchnSew™ sew in fleece if you have them lying around. They are totally optional. If you have the fleece use it to make a quilt sandwich. Place the second plain square of fabric right side out on the bottom.

Use a piece of ribbon to bind the outside of the mug rug. You can use a mitered corner method or just cut four strips, one for each side. Make sure and fold the edges under if you are cutting four separate pieces.
