In addition to being a Mug Rug, this little guy has a pocket that not only holds silverware but also, a napkin or a little note. They are bound to bring a smile, no matter if your young or old!

Tukey Mug Rug Construction

Starting with pocket, fold 7 1/2″ x 10” piece in half, wrong sides together. Insert batting in the center. This will now measure 7 1/2″ wide by 5” tall. Topstitch folded edge to secure batting in the center.

Stitch Dresden Fan blades.

Missouri Star has a nice YouTube video on Dresden block construction

Press your blades open.

Print turkey pieces on HeatNBond®EZ Print Lite. Fuse to reverse side of fabrics, using the manufacturer recommendations. Cut out applique pieces. Fuse the turkey body and collar to the center of the pocket. Stitch as desired.

Lay pocket on the bottom of 7 1/2”x 11” background piece.

Place your Dresden “tail” on the background fabric, sliding it down until the outer edges are even with the top to the pocket, as in the photo below. Remove pocket and set aside for now.

Using SprayNBond®Basting Adhesive, carefully lift one side of the tail, spray and adhere to the background, doing the same for the other side. Layer your oversized batting and backing using SprayNBond®Basting Adhesive. Stitch around the entire tailpiece.

Place pocket on the background. Baste sides and bottom to hold in place and trim mug rug.

Fuse turkey head using the photo below as a guide. It will cover part of the pocket as well as the background. Stitch using your favorite method.

The turkey head will create a divider in the pocket, allowing for silverware on one side and a napkin, or a little “funny” on the other side.
