Easy Luggage Tag – Instructions

Step 1:

Begin by printing your address onto the HeatnBond EZ Print Inkjet Transfer Sheet with an inkjet printer.  Print the address in a 1 1/2″ x 3″ text box.  The font for this one is Arial size 16.  Print the address in reverse.

Next, cut the address out and position it with the words facing down onto the white fabric.  Bond and peel the paper of the address according to tho the manufacture’s instructions.  Let the fabric cool and trim it to 1 3/8″ x 2 7/8″.

Set the white fabric address aside and prepare the teal background fabric.

Step 2:

Cut 2 pieces of HeatnBond Craft Extra Firm Non-Woven Fusible Interfacing 2″ x 3 1/2″ and bond them to the wrong sides of the teal rectangles following the package instructions.

Once the fabric rectangles have cooled, use the SpraynBond Basting Adhesive Fabric Spray to position the address on the front of one of the interface-backed rectangles.  Just spray the back of the address fabric and position it in the center of the fabric.

Next, stitch about 1/8″ from the edge of the address fabric.

Protect the work surface and place the second rectangle fabric side down and the interfacing up.  Spray it with SpraynBond Basting Adhesive.  Place a knot in the ends of the ribbon to form a loop and place the ribbon on the rectangle as shown below.

Now, place the address rectangle on top of the SpraynBond Basting Adhesive wrong side down, sandwiching the ribbon. With a hand, press the tag flat to remove any bubbles. Stitch around the tag a couple of times 1/8″ from the edge.

Step 3:

To make the luggage tag waterproof and stain-resistant with a semi-gloss finish, NEW HeatnBond Liquid Vinyl is applied following these steps:

  1.  Protect the work surface with HeatnBond Pressing Paper or parchment paper
  2. Place the tag with the back of the tag up and paint a thin layer of Liquid Vinyl.
  3. Turn the tag over and paint a thin layer of Liquid Vinyl to the front. Rinse the brush and let the tag dry for 45 minutes.
  4. Preheat iron to medium heat, no steam.  Place the tag between 2 pieces of parchment paper with the back of the tag up.  Press for 45 seconds.
  5. Remove the top paper and let the tag cool.  Turn the tag over, cover with parchment paper, and press the top of the tag for 45 seconds.  Remove the paper and let it cool.

To finish, repeat the above process 2 more times for a total of 3.  For best results, use new parchment paper each time.

Once you try the Liquid Vinyl, you will want to use it everywhere.  It’s easy to use, glides on fabric like a dream, and leaves the nicest semi-gloss oilcloth finish.  I can’t wait to show you more, but for now, I’m going on a vacation and have my luggage tags ready to GO!
