Easter Countdown Instructions:
Step One: From “Spring Bunny Fun” Panel, cut one of the little bunnies out 1/4″ or so from dotted line.
Cut a piece of HeatnBond® Fusible Fleece, High Loft slightly larger than bunny.
Iron fabric piece onto HeatnBond Fusible Fleece according to package directions. With sewing machine and AuRIfil Thread (2530 Hot Pink), stitch all the way around the dotted line leaving piece flat without yet folding. After it’s stitched, trim 1/4″ away from stitches if necessary. Next, fold at “fold line” and re-stitch around dotted line. Should look like this.
Step Two: Choose two of the 5″ square patchwork fat quarters for front and back of quilt. Notice the border and plan to reserve one section of writing “Hippity Hop… Easter is Here!”
You’ll need three 5″ squares across and four 5″ squares down for 12 squares on each fat quarter. This will be approx. 15″ wide by 20″ down when sewn. Next, Cut a 15″ by 20″ piece of HeatnBond Fusible Fleece.
According to package directions, adhere HeatnBond Fusible Fleece to wrong side of one piece. Place both pieces, right sides together and sew with 1/4″ seam all the way around quilt LEAVING a 5″ opening at bottom center for turning. After sewing, turn right side out through the 5″ opening. Using finger or tool, make the corners as square as possible and iron flat.
Using HeatnBond® Hem iron-on adhesive, follow package instructions and close the seam.
After the seam is ironed closed, you can add dimension to the quilt by following the faux seams of the fabric with a “stitch in the ditch” type stitch.
Step Three: choose fabrics from the bundle to cut 12 “pockets”. Cut them 4 1/2″ square. Then fussy cut 12 egg shapes slightly larger than dotted lines.
For the 12 fussy cut eggs , place right side down on top of sheet of paper that can be thrown away afterward. According to directions on packaging, apply HeatnBond® Ultra Hold to wrong side of fabric making sure the adhesive does not extend beyond paper below fabric eggs. If necessary, use 2 or more sheets of paper to protect ironing board beneath.
Pull fabric eggs away from HeatnBond® Ultra Hold paper lining, then away from paper beneath. Trim (with paper or craft scissors) at dotted lines around eggs.
Step Four: Find a placement that pleases you with fabric squares to become pockets on top of quilt squares, then a mix of eggs on “pockets” as shown below.
Step Five: Use HeatnBond® Hem iron-on on wrong side of all four sides of each 4 1/2″ fabric square (pockets), then press the eggs onto the right side, center of each pocket.
Step Six: Sew sides and bottom of each pocket, centered onto each square of quilt.
Step Seven: From the reserved fabric section of writing, fussy cut the sentence “Hippity Hop… Easter is Here!” and using HeatnBond® Hem iron-on attach to the bottom right pocket as shown.
Step Eight: Create 12 tags to correspond to each pocket ( Little carrots were added to each tag here), add a small treat to each and place the bunny in the first pocket.
… now enjoy as the days count down!!
Thanks so much and Happy Easter, Jane
