Hi! My name is Jen and this is my first post as a member of the ThermOWeb Design team.  I will give you a quick little intro since I’m new here!  I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have 5 kids.  We grew up in Idaho but now live outside of NYC.  I love the hustle and bustle of the big city.  Sewing and quilting are my happy place.  And buying fabric!

I also really love the holidays.  With Halloween coming up, you will usually find me knee-deep in making costumes for my kids.  This year, I’m excited to share how to make this DIY Poodle Skirt.  Let’s get started!

DIY Poodle Skirt with HeatnBond Ultrahold Fusible Adhesive

Thermoweb Supplies you will need:

HeatnBond UltraHold Fusible Adhesive

Other Supplies you will need:

Felt (yardage for the skirt and one sheet for the poodle)

Poodle skirt pattern (I used McCall’s 5439)

Sewing machine

DIY Poodle Skirt with HeatnBond Ultrahold Fusible Adhesive Instructions:

The first step is to construct the poodle skirt according to the pattern directions.

My pattern called for 2 1/8 yards of fabric.  Make sure you have enough!

Then comes the fun part, the poodle!

First, trace the poodle applique onto the paper side of the HeatnBond.

Tip:  Trace the mirror-image of the applique.  That way your poodle will be facing the way you need him to.TooltipText

Next, iron the HeatnBond to the wrong side of the felt.  (I used a cloth while pressing so as not to scorch the felt!)

Then peel the paper backing off of the poodle (as stated in the HeatnBond instructions).  Place the poodle where you like on the skirt and press.  Since I chose to use the Ultra Hold there is NO sewing!   That poodle is not going anywhere!

Last, decorate your poodle as you wish.  I chose to glue on pom-poms, a button eye, and a bow!

And you are done!  Isn’t that poodle so cute?

This was seriously the fastest Halloween costume I have ever made!

This costume is also daughter approved!  Win-win!

Thanks for following along with me today.  If you want to see more of what I’m up to, you can check out my blog Thesmittenchicken.com or visit me on Instagram, Facebook or Pinterest.
