Hiya! It’s Erin from Sewbon here to share a tutorial for how to make this easy ditty bag using Blend Fabrics. This bag is perfect for stashing projects for taking them on the go! Want to make one too? Let’s get started!
Materials
- Fabrics from the Mariposa collection from Blend
- Therm O Web HeatnBond® Craft fusible
- Ribbon (about 40 inches)
- Safety Pin
- General Sewing Supplies
Instructions
One: Cut the fabrics as follows
- Main Fabric – Cut one 8.75″ by 30.75″, one 3.75″ by 30.75″, and one 9.5″ circle
- Accent Fabric – Cut one 2.5″ by 30.75″
- Craft Fusible – Cut one 14″ by 30.75″ and one 9.5″ circle
- Lining Fabric – Cut one 14″ by 30.75″ and one 9.5″ circle
Two: Sew together the main fabric 8.75″ by 30.75″ rectangle, the accent fabric 2.5″ by 30.75″ rectangle, and the main fabric 3.75″ by 30.75″ rectangle with a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Press the seam allowances towards the main fabrics.
Three: Top stitch the seam allowances on the main fabric.
Four: Iron on the craft fusible to the back of the panel and to the main fabric circle.
Five: Measure down 2 inches from the middle top of the panel and sew 2 button holes.
Six: Sew the fabric in a loop, right sides together, with a 1/2 inch seam allowance.
Seven: Pin the main fabric circle to the fabric loop, right sides together, and then stitch with a 1/2 inch seam allowance.
Eight: Clip the seam allowance.
Nine: Assemble the lining by following steps 6-8.
Ten: Place the lining over the main fabric, right sides together, and top stitch with a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Make sure to leave a 3 inch hole to turn the bag through.
Eleven: Turn the bag through the hole and place the lining in the bag. Press the bag.
Twelve: Top stitch around the top of the bag, sewing the hole closed.
Thirteen: Sew a line of stitches just slightly to the top and to the bottom of the button holes, making a casing for the ribbon.
Fourteen: Pin a safety pin to the end of the ribbon and feed it through one of the button holes so that the ribbon is in the casing.
And that’s it! Just put your WIP in the bag and take it on the go!
