Are you getting ready to start decorating for Halloween?  How about a great Halloween pennant to decorate a front door or hallway?

Audrey Yeager here with you today to show you how I made this fairly simple pennant using Heat N’ Bond®, DecoFoil™, and my Silhouette Cameo.

cauldron 1

To make this banner, you will need two pieces of fabric approximately 18″ x 44″ for the front and back, and smaller pieces at least 12″ across for your letters and cauldron.  Also a curtain rod or dowel to hang it up.

To make the letters, use double sided Heat N Bond® on the back of your fabric and leave the paper on while cutting.  Using a fabric blade in the Silhouette, cut out the letters with the fabric side UP on the cutting mat and the paper side of the Heat N Bond® stuck to the mat.  You could also easily cut our your letters by hand.

cauldron 2
Iron on your letters and cauldron to the fabric.

Cut the same cauldron and flame shape from the DecoFoil™ Hot Melt adhesive and iron onto the cauldron and flame that is already adhered to the fabric banner.  Then apply the DecoFoils™ Transfer Sheets as per the directions on the package.

With your front and back banner pieces right side together, cut a point on the bottom end, and then stitch down both sides and to the point.  Leave the top open and turn the banner right side out.  Note that I used some cording on the edges of mines.  There are many tutorials online that show you how to add cording to a project.  I also added a tassel stitched into the seam at the point of the banner.

cauldron 5

Fold the raw edges of the top edge under about 5/8″ and top stitch closed.  Hang with a decorative rod.  You could simple use a black curtain rod, or make one with a wooden dowel and finials like the one shown here.  Add some more tassels on the ends of the rod.

Now, grab your eye of newt and toe of bat, boil it up and enjoy!

Happy Halloween Decorating!
