Instructions:

To being, gather your supplies:

Create a pattern for your bunny on scrap paper. Or download a free template or pattern from the internet.

Fold black denim fabric together, with right sides facing. Pin bunny pattern onto the fabric and cut it out.

Cut a three inch wide strip of patterned fabric. Trim a piece of Heatn’Bond Lite® that is slightly smaller than your fabric piece. Following the manufacturer directions on the packaging, fuse the adhesive onto the back side of the fabric using an iron.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb DecoFoil BleuBunnies Tut4
cut rounded ear shapes from the fused fabric. Place them onto the front side of the body, and iron gently for 6 seconds to adhere the fabric to the ear. This will keep your fabric from shifting while sewing, and is perfect for raw-edge applique techniques like I’m using here.

Add decorative stitching to the ear appliques. Then sew on stacked buttons for the eyes.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb DecoFoil BleuBunnies Tut6For the nose and cheek pieces, cut a scrap of neutral denim or heavyweight fabric. Apply iCraft® Deco Foil™ Liquid Adhesive onto the fabric, and brush it back and forth with a junky old paintbrush. This is my favorite way to apply the Deco Foil transfer sheets to fabric. Love that you can see the texture from the liquid adhesive as well as from the actual fabric itself in the finished application. So perfect for primitives and rag dolls, which are my favorite. Set the fabric aside and allow it to dry until the adhesive is tacky and sticky to the touch, but not wet. And be sure to wash out your paintbrush immediately.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb DecoFoil BleuBunnies Tut7Cut pieces of iCraft® Deco Foil™ transfer sheets that are about the size of your fabric piece. When the glue is dry, place the foil down onto the fabric, with the shiny colored side up and the silver side down. Burnish the foil well with your fingertip or the edge of a credit card or spoon.

Lift the foil off and check out your cool foiled fabric! Love all the texture! If you missed any spots, simply lay your foil back down and burnish it some more.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb DecoFoil BleuBunnies Tut9Now cut out face shapes from the foiled fabric.  The Deco Foil adhesive may gum up your sewing machine needle, so adhere these pieces with Fabric Fuse liquid adhesive.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb DecoFoil BleuBunnies Tut10And then add hand-stitched details.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb DecoFoil BleuBunnies Tut11To create the arms and legs, cut 3″ wide strips of the patterned fabric. Fold the fabric together the long way, with right sides facing. Stitch an L-shape down the length of the fabric about 3 inches long. Then leave a small gap and stitch another L. Continue all the way down the length of the fabric until you have four appendages for each bunny.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb DecoFoil BleuBunnies Tut12Cut out each L-shape, and turn it right side out. Add a small amount of polyfill fiber stuffing to the end of each appendage.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb DecoFoil BleuBunnies Tut13Lay the body down right side up on your work table. Place two arms across the top of the body, with the closed ends in the middle of the body, and the open ends hanging out of the body. Do the same for the legs. Place the back side of the body down onto the top side, with right sides facing. Pin and machine stitch around the edge, leaving a 3″ gap on the side of the body for turning.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb DecoFoil BleuBunnies3Turn the bodies right side out. Stuff firmly with polyfill stuffing. Whip stitch the opening closed. Add a fabric tie and tag around the bunny’s neck.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb DecoFoil BleuBunnies4Enjoy!
