Hi everyone! It’s Juliana and I’m here today to share with you about – Cystic Fibrosis. I first became very familiar with it when I was working as a Physical Therapist with a patient who had undergone a lung transplant. This young woman and her life story stayed with me over the years. Since meeting her and helping her recuperate during the early days after her surgery I have come to know multiple people and their families who have had to face this disease. Most recently it has been a young boy who is the son of a dear high school friend of my husband’s.  Each year we particpate in a 5K to help raise money to support research for new treatments and to help find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.

Cystic Fibrosis awareness is represented by the color purple and roses have been associated with it since 1965 when a 4 year old boy first heard the name for the disease and thought it was “65 Roses”.

For my project I was inspired by the patient I worked with years ago to create a motivational wall hanging using 3 words that may seem simple to you and I, but are not the case for the nearly 30,000 people in the United States who have this disease…Live, Hope, Breathe.

Glitter Dust Scallop Frame Rose Tutorial

To decorate my wall hanging piece, I decided to create some hand made roses using Therm O Web’s Glitter Dust™ Scallop Deco Frames in purple. Along with the Deco Frames you will need scissors, colored chalks, an eye shadow applicator, a quilling tool (or your fingers) and Therm O Web Zots™.

Remove the adhesive backing from the Deco Frame and then color it with a coordinating color of chalk. When you create the flower, you will see some of the back side of the frame and having it the same color as the front gives it a more finished look.

After you have colored the backside use your fingers to scrunch and wrinkle the frame. Do not be cautious other than to avoid tearing it.

Cut the frame with your scissors.

Take the quilling tool and roll the scallop piece around tip. Roll it so that it is a slightly loose coil. If you don’t have a quilling tool you can use your fingers to roll it into a coil.

Once it is fully coiled, remove it from the quilling tool and place it firmly on a Zot™ to help hold it together.

Use your fingers (or even tweezers) to gently roll back some of the edges. This will turn it into a beautiful rose!

To finish the roses, I created some mini foiled leaves using a leaf die cut and the new Therm O Web iCraft® Toner Sheets.

Use more Zots™ as needed to attach the roses to the surface.

To create the motivational phrase, I designed a digital cut file to use with my Silhouette Cameo.  I cut the phrase out of the new Therm O Web iCraft® Deco Foil™ PeelNStick Toner Sheets and foiled it using the new Lilac Deco Foil™.

Quick Tip: Use the leftover cut image as a template to help guide the placement of the die cuts letters.

Absolutely gorgeous motivational wall hanging and great tutorial. Thank you for the all of it, including the free cut file. I’m actually hosting a virtual fundraiser to benefit the CysticFibrosis Foundation, in March. Would love your approval to use your sign image, as I may not have time to create my own before I kick off this event, but I definitely want to try to make one.
