Create the Look of Handblown Glass Using Zips

Have you ever toured a glass factory and watched an artist creating hand blown glass? My husband knows he’s in trouble whenever we visit a glass studio because I could watch the process for hours… but usually he can lure me away with an offer to visit the gift shop. 🙂

The one thing I don’t love about hand blown glass is the price. The project I have today uses Zips™ to give an inexpensive glass votive the look of a hand blown piece. And by inexpensive, I mean REALLY inexpensive… I found these votives for around 89 cents each!

To get started, all you need are a pair of glass votives, fine glitter, and Zips™. Zips™ work much like hot glue, but without the heat or mess.

Cut a strip of Zips™ (non-stick scissors work best), peel off one side of the liner and then start to wrap around the votive. Add a second, or even third swirl, as desired.

Remove the liners and sprinkle with glitter (a light color works well). If you look closely, you can see the dimension that the Zips™ add… they even have small air bubbles, just like hand blown glass.

The glitter does two things. First, it neutralizes the stickiness of the adhesive and second, it adds a sparkle that looks beautiful reflected in candlelight.

And there you have it… easy, quick (you can create a pair in about 5 minutes!), and inexpensive…. plus they make a great hostess gift!
