Deco Foil Flock Layout Details

Punches, who doesn’t love them right?! Although they seem hard to find these days, I have a ton of border punches that I bought back in the day, that I still use. As I was getting ready to do this layout, I thought it would be fun to add some Deco Foil Flocked borders to my layout as accents!

The first order of business is creating a base for your to punch the border (or shapes) out of.  I applied the Easy Cut Adhesive Sheets to some cardstock.  I wanted my borders the length of the page, so I cut my adhesive sheets in half and then just lined them up down my 12×12 cardstock.

This gave me a working area of 3×12 inches to cut border strips out of.  I smoothed the Easy Cut Adhesive down with the Stencil Pal which it worked perfectly for.  It will be my go-to tool for smoothing things like this now!  Leave the protective adhesive cover on, until after the next step.

After I had my adhesive sheets smooth out, I border punched my strips. I used three different punches, but you could easily use the same punch and vary the width of the strips for a different look.

Now it’s time to flock your border strips.  Gently remove the protective covering from half of the border punched strip and apply the adhesive side down on your flock color of choice.

Press the border strip firmly onto the flock. After the strip has adhered to the flock, then run through your manual die cutting machine. If you do not have a manual die cutting machine, you may be able to burnish the flock onto the adhesive strip.  Or you might be able to use a brayer to get the flock to transfer.  The best look will come from using a die cutting machine, but you can get by without it.

Once you have run the strip through the machine, then carefully peel the strip away from the flock transfer sheet.  You will need to do the above step twice for each strip unless you have a cutting plate that will hold a full 12-inch strip.  I didn’t, so it works fine this way also.

Above you can see the Orange Glow flocked strip I used to accent the other strips in my cluster. Because this strip was actually the last one that I had made, it is pretty skinny!

Wanting my borders to pop off my page, I used the 3D Foam Squares to pop them up at the top of my page. I laid the lacy strip on top of the solid strip. By doing this, it allowed me to not use adhesive on any of my flocked pieces. But it allowed me to attach the strips securely to the paper of my layout.

I created paper strips as accents under both picture areas. Are you like me?  If so, I always get my strips laid out just how I like, and then I cannot recreate the layout. Purple Tape to the rescue!

Lay your strips in the order you would like to keep them in. Make sure you can attach part of the Purple tape to a small section of each strip.  Once you have them aligned the way you like, then cut a piece of Purple Tape that is slightly longer than the width of all your strips and adhere it to them.  Flip over, secure on the backside with either another piece of Purple Tape or some adhesive and a piece of scrap paper. By doing this, it will keep everything in place as you adhere it to your layout.  Once you have the backside secure, then apply your adhesive choice and attached to your layout.

Finish up your layout by adding additional embellishments of your choice, a title, and some journaling if you wish.  I always use a variety of adhesives, depending on what I am trying to stick down!  My Thickers below had lost all their stickiness, so it was Ultra Bond Liquid Adhesive to the rescue for those!

And yes, we do stop at places to feed the dogs when we are on the road!  This was actually at a Taco Bell, so we had some “Curbside Eats” also!  Have a great day and get out and enjoy the outdoors (if it’s not too hot!)
