Deco Foil Donut Mini Quilt
Hi friends! Alicia here again from Sew What Alicia. Today is National Donut Day and I couldn’t let it pass without a fun donut project! I am somewhat obsessed with donuts and so I couldn’t resist a fun donut mini quilt. Hands up if you love the mini quilt trend as much as I do!!
Deco Foil™ Donut Mini Quilt
Supplies:
DecoFoil™ Transfer Sheets – Opal
DecoFoil™ Transfer Sheets – Copper
One Package Thermoweb HeatnBond® Fusible Fleece
DecoFoil™ Hot Melt Adhesive
Fat Eights (2)
Backing Fabric (1 yard)
Contrasting Aurifil Thread (Pink and White)
Donut Mini Quilt Instructions:
Cut four 9″ squares from the two fat eighths. Use a circle template to trace two (or four) circles onto the paper side of the hot melt adhesive. Use the DecoFoil tube to trace the center of the donut.
Cut the donuts out of the adhesive. Save the scraps for the icing on top.
Attach the copper foil to the donuts.
Use a scrap piece of cream or white fabric and sketch out the icing onto the paper side of the scraps of hot melt adhesive. Attach the opal foil to the off white fabric and then cut the icing swirls out.
Use the white thread to top-stitch the icing to the donut.
Attach the four squares together. You can see I decided to go with just two donuts because I wanted to play around with the quilting. Iron the fusible fleece to the four squares. Be careful to avoid the foil because it will be ruined if you hit it with the iron. Lastly cut a piece of backing fabric that is 2″ wider than the top all the way around.
Quilt how you see fit. I wrote the word donuts in lines with my pink Aurfil thread and I am totally obsessed with how it turned out!
Use the backing to create the binding and you are finished!
I hope you enjoy plenty of donuts today!!
