Hi! Chrissie here! It’s not a secret that I love papercrafting and I dabble in other crafts too when I can.  One thing that I have never gotten the hang of is sewing.  My mother is an amazing sewer and I could just never get the hang of it.  The new iCraft® Mixed Media Sheets were initially created for sewing, but since I don’t sew, I wanted to use them in my area of expertise – paper crafts!

Project Instructions:

OK, I did create a Mixed Media canvas instead of a card, but I was pushing my own creative boundaries!
I started by prepping the canvas with Gesso and letting it dry overnight.  Once it was dry, I placed a stencil over it (securing it down with washi tape so it didn’t move) and I added embossing paste.

I peeled off the stencil and let it dry.

Mixed Media Sheet Canvas

I trimmed down a piece of one of the iCraft® Mixed Media Sheets (coming soon!) and placed some dies on top. I ran them through my die cutting machine.  These cut PERFECTLY! There were a few edges that weren’t 100% crisp, but I like it that way.  That shows this isn’t just paper; it’s something different.  Plus, I chose leaves, so I didn’t want them to look all crisp.

Canvas5

I added some pink acrylic paint to the dried canvas, then I placed the stencil over and added more embossing paste. I wanted lots of layers!

While that was drying, I decided to paint the die cuts.  Since the material is like paper, it can be painted, stamped, foiled, colored on… You name it! I decided to paint it, but then flip it over and show the backside, not the painted side.  This softens it up a bit and I think it adds character to the pieces.

Canvas8

Once the paste was dry, I added some white acrylic paint.  Then I let it dry again (talk about patience, huh?).  I went in with some Distress Crayons around the edges and blended them into the canvas with my finger.

Canvas9

Then I flipped over the die cuts (like I mentioned previously) and adhered them to the canvas.  I added some sequins using small Zots™ Singles.

Finally, to add some shimmer (I just can’t help myself) and to protect and seal everything, I sprayed Gold Glitter Dust™ all over the canvas.

I seriously love the addition of the iCraft® Mixed Media Sheets.  The added texture they give to the canvas is just perfect.
