SUPPLIES:

Therm O Web Heat n Bond® Lite

Therm O Web Spray n Bond® Basting Adhesive

Therm O Web Fabric Fuse™

Two shades of green felt (I like 100% wool felt)

Die cut machine and leaf dies (or you can simply hand cut)

Basic child’s tee (A bodysuit would work great for a baby)

Felt pom-pom balls

A basic skirt (I made mine, but you can find a simple basic skirt or tutu to use. You can even just use green leggings)

Scissors and Pinking shears

A flower headband or you can make your own with flower dies/pattern as I did

Coordinating thread and sewing machine (optional!)

Let’s get started! I will teach you how to make the quick and easy shirt and how to decorate your skirt!

Create a Flower Fairy Halloween Costume Project Instructions:

costum2

I cut two long strips; about 20″ long (you’ll want it at least the width of your skirt hem) and 6″ wide of both my green felt colors and ironed on Heat n Bond® Lite on one side. Do not remove the paper until after cutting. It just makes it easier to handle.

costume3

Cut 5 large leaves, 5 smaller leaves, and a long strip about 2″ wide and as long as the shirt you are using from neckline to hem. I trimmed the ‘stem’ part with pinking shears. The LIGHT green smaller leaves should be cut from felt without the Heat n Bond® because you will use Fabric Fuse to adhere these or stitch them down. Remove the paper backing from the dark green pieces and lightly spray all pieces with Spray n Bond® Basting Spray.

costume4

Lay your stem down the center of the tee and then place the dark green leaves behind the stem just slightly. Press pieces down firmly and then turn the shirt over. You will want the felt leaves/stem face DOWN on your ironing board. Iron on the INSIDE of the tee to set the Heat N Bond. Let it cool a minute.

TIP: Fold the tee in half and lightly press with an iron to get a center line to follow when placing your felt pieces.TooltipText

Using Fabric Fuse adhere the lighter green leaves. Adding stitching details is optional but adds a great touch! If you plan to stitch, you can just use the basting spray on the lighter green leaves and skip the Fabric Fuse.

Now for the skirt!

costum6

Use two strips of felt as wide as your skirt hem. The darker green is about 3″ wide and I trimmed the light green down to about 1″ wide with pinking shears. Taking sharp scissors, freehand cut a grass trim from the dark green felt. Spray the dark green grass strip with basting spray and position on your skirt how you’d like. Iron from the INSIDE to set your Heat n Bond lite. Add a light green strip with either Fabric Fuse or use Basting Spray and stitch it down. You can easily create this without touching a sewing machine! I just personally love the look of the added stitching.

costume7

I embellished the skirt with some wool felt balls using hot glue. Just thought it added some fun dimension to it.

That’s it! Create or buy a large flower headband and you are SET! You can even pick up a pair of fairy wings and have yourself a little flower fairy this Halloween!
