flag

Happy summer time from Jedi Craft Girl!  I don’t know if it’s because my Birthday is July 3rd but I love all things red white and blue!  When I got married, the colors on my registry were “Americana theme”.  My whole house was red white and blue! (Circa 1994)

IMG_8665I am excited to share this festive flag wall hanging with you.  It’s a great stash buster and you can make it in about an hour!  Let’s get started:IMG_8623

Project Supplies:

12″ x 18″ piece of burlap
scraps of red fabric (at least 17″ long)
Lace trim
Denim 4″ x 5″
Deco Foil™ Hot Melt Sheet
Silver Deco Foil™ Transfer Sheets
Spray n Bond® Basting Spray
Dowel
ClothespinsIMG_8624

Project Instructions:

Cut a star out of the Deco Foil™ Hot Melt sheets.  I used my Sizzix Fabi but it would be easy to draw one or trace a cookie cutter.  It needs to fit inside the 4″ x’5″ denim square.IMG_8626With a medium-hot, dry iron, heat set the star in the center of the denim.  Let  cool.IMG_8627Peel off the backing paper.IMG_8628Place the silver foil right side up on top of the star and a pressing sheet (or piece of cotton fabric).  With a medium-hot iron, heat press for about 15 seconds, moving the iron.  Let cool.IMG_8629Peel off the Deco Foil™Transfer Sheet off carefully.IMG_8631Cut the red strips 1.5″ .  Position all the pieces on the burlap.  I laid everything out and then cut the ends with scissors.  They don’t have to be perfectly even.  Leave about 1″ of burlap showing around the entire flag.IMG_8633Once everything looks good, apply Spray n Bond to the back of each piece and press into place.  I love Spray n Bond® Basting Spray and use it for EVERYTHING!!

A little tip when using it:  Grab some old wrapping paper and and use it to catch any overspray.  When it gets all sticky, just unroll more then throw away!TooltipText

IMG_8635Top stitch around the denim star piece, the lace, and the red stripes in white thread.IMG_8638Once it’s all sewn, get a small piece of dowel and attach the flag with clothespins.  I love these chunky antique looking ones.  Leave some room at the ends and cut (2) WOFx 2″ navy fabric (2) WOF x 2″ red fabric and (4) pieces of lace the same length.  Tie a red, navy, and 2 lace pieces to each end.  Trim the ends.
