Carnival Card Tutorial

I started with my background first today. This is the Superstar stencil from Trinity Stamps. It’s a two-step layering stencil so I inked the first layer with bright yellow ink and a blending brush. I removed the stencil and added a yellow shadow in the center of the panel because I don’t like a lot of stark white on my cards.

Then I added the second stencil layer and spread Transfer Gel Blanco through it. I used Pixie Tape to hold my stencil in place because it’s quick and easy to pick up from the mat vs. Pixie Spray which sticks it to your paper.

When I’m getting messy, I tend to do multiples at a time. This time I’m using the Superstar stencil which is one layer. So I inked a red shadow in the center of the panel before adding the stencil and Transfer Gel Blanco through it.

While the transfer gel was drying and the laminator was heating up I stamped and colored images from Balancing Acts for one of my cards. They’re super cute and fun to arrange in different stacks.

When everything was ready, I placed each panel with Deco Foil Flock in sunshine yellow in a Craft & Carrier sheet and ran them through the laminator. Don’t they look so fun already!?! Flock is seriously one of my favorite things to play with!

Also, with the laminator heated up, I pulled one of the Happy Everything toner card fronts out and foiled it with gold shattered glass. It looks SO COOL!!! I’m having so much fun experimenting foils with the different text.

I used the coordinating dies from the Happy Everything stamp and die set to cut the happy out. Then I used a sentiment strip die to cut the small sentiments out at the bottom. I like to just cut it all out at once so I have extras for other cards.

Next, I used the Trinity Stamps Build a Big Top die set to just die cut the flock instead of transferring it with transfer gel. This is another fun way to get flock texture on your cards and make your die-cut creations stand out. I cut the stripes from the flock and the rest from white cardstock. Then I used Copic markers to add color to the details.

Copic colors used:
B06, B04, B02
Y28, Y26
E47, E44
W7, W5

Then I just started assembling everything. The Superstar background was adhered to a white card base and the tent was popped up with foam tape. Then I added the foiled Happy Birthday with foam tape too.

There is so much fabulous texture on this card that I absolutely love! The shattered glass foil definitely adds an extra something to the sentiment. I also love having the flock on the background and the circus tent too.

Next, I trimmed the Starstruck background down to 4×5.25 inches and popped it up on a piece of blue cardstock with foam tape. Then I added the images with foam squares. I stamped and heat embossed a sentiment from the set on black cardstock and used a coordinating die to cut it out before adding it with foam squares too.

For finishing touches, I thought this card needed some shine so I added glossy accents to various parts of the images like the clown’s nose, cups and plate, and the clown’s shoes too. Then I wanted sparkle so I added stardust Stickles to the dog and clown ruffles.

When all was said and done I decided to add a little extra something to both cards by placing them in my splatter box and spraying them with gold Glitter Dust Spray. It gives the whole card a super fun glittery shimmer. I totally LOVE it!

I hope you enjoyed today’s projects and found some fun inspiration to create something wonderful to share with someone.

I appreciate you sharing your time with me. Have a fabulous day!
