PREP

  • Prep the templates. Print onto cardstock. For the body, cut and tape where indicated.

LET’S BEGIN!

Make the Tree

  1. Attach a 14″ x 8″ HeatnBond fusible fleece to the back of the 14″ x 8″ green cotton outer body rectangle. Use the instructions from the packaging as directed.
  2. Quilt as desired. I used a scallop stitch on my sewing machine to make a quilted garland designed. You can use any stitch as desired to use as the garland or just quilt as usual or you can add rick rack here too for the garland by sewing it into place.
  3. Using the provided template, trace the shape onto the outer body piece. Cut the shape out.
  4. Using the same template, trace it onto the 14″ x 8″ inner body and cut the shape out.
  5. Take each body piece and lay onto each other with wrong sides facing out. Pin in place. Mark a 2″ opening on the straight side of the pinned pieces with a water- soluble pen (this is where you will turn the piece right side out). Starting at one end of the opening, backstitch and sew using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Once you get to the end of the 2″ opening, backstitch here as well.
  6. Clip the curved area.
  7. Turn the piece right side out through the opening, using a stiletto or chopstick to smooth out the curves, corners, and seams. Smooth the front and back with an iron. Close the opening by turning the seams inward. Press with an iron and hand sew in place.
  8. With the inner tree body facing out and the straight edge facing up, meet each corner together.

  9. Using a ladder stitch, hand sew the sides together, starting at the bottom corners.
  10. Add a pompom or other embellishment to the top of the tree by hand sewing it in place.
  11. Add all the desired embellishments to the outer body of the tree by hand sewing in place. When done, set aside and proceed to the candy holder body.

Make the Candy Holder Body

  1. Attach a 15.5″ x 3″ HeatnBond fusible fleece rectangle to the back of the 15.5″ x 3″ outer body cotton rectangle. Use the instructions from the packaging as directed.
  2. Take each outer body piece and inner body piece and lay onto each other with wrong sides facing out. Pin in place. Mark a 2″ opening on one long side of the pinned pieces with a water-soluble pen (this is where you will turn the piece right side out). Starting at one end of the opening, backstitch and sew using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Once you get to the end of the 2″ opening, backstitch here as well.
  3. Turn the piece right side out through the opening, using a stiletto or chopstick to smooth out the corners and seams. Smooth the front and back with an iron. Close the opening by turning the seams inward. Press with an iron and hand sew in place.
  4. With the inner candy holder body facing out, meet each side together. Hand sew using the same ladder stitch as you did on the tree body. Set the piece aside and proceed with making the candy holder bottom.

Make the Candy Holder Bottom

  1. Attach a 6″ x 6″ HeatnBond fusible fleece square to the back of the 6″ x 6″ outer body cotton square. Use the instructions from the packaging as directed.
  2. Using the provided template, trace the circle shape onto the outer body piece. Cut the shape out.
  3. Repeat for the 6″ x 6″ inner body square.
  4. Take the outer bottom piece and inner bottom piece and lay onto each other with wrong sides facing out. Pin in place. Mark a 2″ opening on either side of the pinned pieces with a water-soluble pen (this is where you will turn the piece right side out). Starting at one end of the opening, backstitch and sew using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Once you get to the end of the 2″ opening, backstitch here as well.
  5. Clip around the entire circle.
  6. Turn the piece right side out through the opening, using a stiletto or chopstick to smooth out the corners and seams. Smooth the front and back with an iron.
  7. Close the opening by turning the seams inward. Hand sew in place and press with an iron. Set the piece aside and proceed with putting the base together.

Assemble the Candy Holder Body to the Base

  1. Take the candy holder body and align to the base (inner base should be facing inwards).
  2. Hand sew along the entire base, using a ladder stitch.

  3.  Turn the candy body holder bottom side down.

You are now finished! Place the tree top onto the candy body holder and enjoy!
