This week we’re excited to kick off Christmas in July with you showcasing Designer Jennifer Jangles new holiday fabric collection Jolly Holiday “In The City” collection!
Christmas Stockings with Deco Foil
Hi all!
This is Kim Lapacek of Persimon Dreams with a fun new project to share with you for the second day of the fun ‘Christmas in July’ celebration over here at Therm O Web with Jennifer Jangles fabric line – Jolly Holiday ‘In the City’! I’m going to share a fun way you can embellish your Christmas Stockings with Therm O Web’s great product – Deco Foil. These make great Christmas gifts and folks will love pulling them out to decorate and fill each year!
Supplies Needed:
- 1/2 yard of fabric for outer stocking (if you carefully position the stocking template you’ll be able to cut out two stockings from this. If it’s a directional print like the border fabric, you’ll only get one stocking)
- 1/2 yard of fabric for inner stocking
- 1/8 yard of fabric for stocking cuff
- Lace or ribbon for hanging
- iCraft® Deco Foil™ Hot Melt Adhesive
- Pressing Sheet
- DecoFoils
I started by making up some Christmas stockings featuring Jennifer Jangle’s fabulous fabric! Aren’t these just so wonderful and festive!? I used a FREE pattern and tutorial from Suzy Quilts to create my stockings. They’re cute without anything … but wouldn’t they look even better with a little decofoil!? Of course!
I decided I wanted to use some neutral holiday words for my stockings. You could easily personalize these with names too. Whatever you wish! Head over to my craftsy shop and download my FREE word templates – these include the words Joy, Peace, and Noel.
If you want to use the fabulous Deco Foils™ for your words be sure to use the words that read normally! This is a little different than what you may be used to when you raw edge applique fabric letters. For the fabric letters use the templates that read backward. I have the difference between these two noted on the template sheets.
Step 1. Trace the word you want to add to your stocking to the paper side of the Deco Foil™ Hot Melt Adhesive.
Step 2. Cut the letters out. Lay the word out how you’d like it to show up on the stocking.
Step 3. Place a Pressing Sheet over the letters. With a hot iron press the words down for 30 seconds.
At this point, your project should look like this. You’re going to want to get right at this and take the paper off but from experience and trial and error this next step is super important.
Step 4. Let the Deco Foil™ Hot Melt adhesive cool down. Seriously, let it cool down.
At this point, you should still be letting it cool down.
I am a very impatient person but I found that if I trace and cut the letters out for my next stocking and then take the paper off, everything just works out better.
Step 5. Once the iCraft® Deco Foil™ Hot Melt Adhesive is properly cool enough, tear off the paper. You can see in this picture how the Deco Foil™ Hot Melt Adhesive is still in place.
Step 7. Cut out a piece of DecoFoil in the color you desire (here I used Gold Deco Foil on three stockings and Teal DecoFoil on the other three ) in a size that easily fits over the Hot Melt adhesive. Cover that with a pressing sheet.
Step 8. Press with a hot iron for 30 seconds evenly over the hot melt adhesive. Again – let everything cool down before you peel off the Deco Foil.
Step 9. If you waited long enough for things to cool … when you peel your Deco Foil off – here’s what things should look like! I am so pleased with how this turned out and the iCraft® Deco Foil™ adds the appropriate amount of glitz to these Christmas Stockings.
Step 10. Repeat with the words Joy and Peace on the other stockings!
Step 11. Gift these or use them for your family.
Step 12. Bask in the joy you’ve given those who are enjoying these fabulous stockings! And they’ll be super impressed that ‘You made them yourself!’

July 28, 2015 at 7:03 pm (9 years ago)I love Christmas. I have a collection of Santa’s that I get out right after Thanksgiving. It’s a treat to see them after 11 months – surprised at all that I have.
I hang the stockings, decorate the tree with the handmade ornaments (needlepoint, counted crochet, and stitched) and have my nativity sets out under the tree.
Santa is my favorite person of the year.
Love your stockings. thanks.
