Patchwork Felt Holiday Tree

To begin, gather your felt and pom supply and print both pages of the tree pattern listed in the supplies.

Cut out the pattern pieces and spray the back of each piece lightly with Basting Adhesive Spray. Allow the spray to dry until it is tacky to the touch. Lay the pattern pieces onto the felt, and trim around each shape. Remove the pattern.

Stitch the three pieces of the front of the tree together using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Press the seams open with your iron.

Lay the front of the tree onto the back panel of the tree, and machine stitch around the edges using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Be sure to leave an ~2″ opening in the bottom. Snip into the seam allowance at all the curves, making sure not to accidentally clip the seam.

Turn the tree right side out. Thread embroidery floss into the side seam of the tree at the junction where two fabrics meet. Add assorted pom poms across the tree front, tying off the end of the thread on the opposite side of the tree. Repeat the process across the second seam junction.

Insert a chopstick or wooden dowel or skewer into the tree, and then fill the tree fully with polyfill fiber stuffing. Whipstitch the bottom opening closed using embroidery floss.

Fold a piece of felt in half, and place the star pattern onto the felt. Stitch around the pattern, remove the pattern, and trim around the star shape. Make a small slit through just one layer of the star, and turn the star right side out. Lightly stuff the star with polyfill stuffing, and whip stitch the back opening closed. Stitch the star to the top of the tree. Add a pom-pom to the center of the tree with Fabric Fuse adhesive.

Use small dots of Fabric Fuse adhesive to keep the strings of garlands in place, if needed. Insert the wooden chopstick into a spool to hold your tree upright. And that’s all there is to it! Such a quick and easy DIY craft project that makes a great gift idea, too. Just think of all the fun color combinations you could come up with using all the beautiful color palettes of felt available at Benzie Design. I can’t wait to make some more! Enjoy!
