It’s time for the Therm O Web Halloween “Chills and Thrills Sew Along” to begin! Four free block patterns will be released over the next four days and a free project pattern will be released on September 24th. You’ll find a list of what you’ll need for the blocks and the project in this post to make it easy for you. The project pattern will be for a table runner, but you can use the blocks to make whatever you want. Let the sewing begin!
Halloween Sew-Along
The first block is “Frankie” who’s looking a little zapped right now, but don’t be fooled…he’s totally ready for some Halloween fun!
Applique blocks and project supplies:
Heat n Bond EZ Print Lite Sheets – You’ll love these for applique because they are so easy to use. Just run the sheets through your inkjet printer and they are ready for ironing on your fabric.
Aurifil Thread – This thread is amazing for sewing. The applique blocks in these projects were sewn using 28 wt thread, but 40wt or 50wt works, too. Use the 50wt thread for sewing seams.
Oliso Iron – The newest iron by Oliso is their Mini Project Iron. It’s perfect for any ironing project!
Fabrics you’ll need for blocks and table runner:
3/8 yard – Applique block background
1 1/2 yard – Border A and Sashing
1/8 yard – Border A corners
1/3 yard – Binding
1 1/2 yard – Runner back
10-12 fat quarters – orange, red, white, light green, dark green, white, black, yellow, purple
Applique Tip: When putting together your applique pieces, lay them out first before ironing to your fabric. Make sure they slightly overlap if indicated in the keys. The Applique Pressing Sheet is a great tool for assembling the pieces. Lay them out on the sheet and lightly press them in place (don’t do it for too long.) Let cool. Carefully peel off the applique from the sheet and lay it on the right side of your fabric. Press in place. You can find the PDF downloadable free pattern of “Frankie” HERE.
Be sure to come back for the rest of the blocks and project! We’d love it if you shared your finished blocks with us on Instagram, #thermowebsewalong.
