Burst of Sunshine Fall Mixed Media Flower Journal
After living in the city of Pittsburgh for 13 years, my family and I moved to the suburbs. Even though I am from the country originally, city life stole my heart. I loved going Downtown for an adventure and the lime life. But no matter where I have lived I have found it is truly the people that matter. The neighborhood we moved to 7 years ago is one of those neighborhoods where everyone knows everyone. The streets dead-end, people walk their dogs after work and you will find the kids riding their bikes from backyard to backyard. The spacious yards allow if one chooses one to have amazing gardens; some pick fruit, while others are flowers and some have both. One such yard is owned by my friend Chris. Every day I pass her yard and the visual sight of the sunflowers bring me back to childhood and walks with my Dad. The newest release from Gina K Designs and Therm O Web is the perfect way of capturing this memory.

Burst of Sunshine Fall Mixed Media Flower Journal Instructions:
To start this mixed media project, I started by taking a cloth mixed media journal that I picked up from one of the big box stores. I took the iCraft Deco Foil Swirl Stencil and applied the Transfer Gel using a pallet knife. When the Transfer Gel was almost dry I applied Deco Foil Opal Transfer Sheet with a brayer and a heat gun.
Using my Big Shot I took the Fall 2018 Gina K Therm O Web release StampNFoil Foil Mates Detail Sheets- Graphic Sunflowers, Purple Tape and cut out using the coordinating dies. I also cut out coordinating leaves with the die set after stamping them with the Gina K StampNFoil Graphic Sunflower stamp set. Using a Minc I foiled my die cuts. Then I colored the die cuts using a combination of Brutus Monroe Surface Inks, Style Markers and water brush till I go the look I wanted.
To assemble the front piece of my mixed media journal I stamped a generic script stamp in random places on the cover. Then I found a piece of screen fix-it tape and ‘borrowed’ from my husband’s garage. I used the iCraft Mixed Media Craft Adhesive Glue to attach my artificial flower piece, the stem wire (some that I twisted) and the die piece ‘Hello’.
Using the 3D foam and 3D Zots I attached the flowers and leaves. To give a more 3D appearance I bent some of the pieces and layers some on top of each other. Lastly, I poured a few pebbles, glitter and crushed glass glitter that I had in a jar left over from another project. This gave an otherwise plain cloth journal, a conversational front, and now is more of a coffee table book for the season full of memories to be.
