After a long winter of rain, floods, snowstorms. and freezing temperatures, I think we are all ready for some beautiful spring weather. It will be so nice when roses, tulips, and bright colored sunflowers start to appear. But if it’s not blooming flowers in your neighborhood yet, maybe sewing a pillow with flowers will just have to do for now. To make it easier to create the pillow, I used the amazing Therm O Web Heat N Bond EZ Print Lite Sheets to print the applique flowers and leaves. No tracing involved! I ran the sheets through my inkjet printer and they were ready to use. Easy!

Step 4: Prepare the applique patterns following either of the applique instructions below:
a. Applique with printable Heat n Bond EZ Print Lite sheets: Using your inkjet printer, print out applique pattern pieces using Heat n Bond EZ Print Lite sheets. Load one sheet at a time into the paper tray. Sheet should be placed so printing is on the smooth side of the paper. Print quality at the normal setting and for plain paper. Allow 5-10 seconds for ink to dry.
b. Applique with Heat n Bond Lite: Trace applique designs on the smooth side of Heat n Bond Lite.
Step 5: Iron adhesive pieces to wrong sides of fabrics with a medium heat iron, no steam. Press for 2 seconds. Repeat until all surfaces have been bonded to fabric. Let cool. Cut out applique pieces. Peel off paper liner. Place applique shape, adhesive side down, on top of right side of project. Press and hold iron for 6 seconds on each section until entire piece is bonded. Let cool.
*Tip: Using a heatproof ironing sheet to arrange your applique pieces before placing them on fabric project helps avoid misplaced pieces. Arrange the designs with adhesive side down and lightly iron to hold all the pieces together. Let cool. Remove gently and place on fabric in desired position.
Step 6: Place 18½” x 18½” Heat N Bond Fusible Interfacing – Light Weight, rough side down, on wrong side of fabric. Cover with ironing cloth and follow package directions to press in place.
*Tip: Ironing Heat N Bond Fusible Interfacing – Light Weight to the wrong side of fabric helps stabilize the fabric when sewing on applique pieces, keeps threads from showing through from embroidery, and helps maintain fabric size.
Step 7: Sew around applique edges using a straight, zig-zag, or blanket stitch.
Step 8: Trace lettering and stems on pillow front using washable marker. Embroider flower stems using your favorite stitch.
Step 9: Place 18½” x 18½” Heat n Bond Fleece Fusible High Loft with adhesive side down on top of interfaced fabric. Cover with ironing cloth and press in place following package directions.
Step 7: Spray Heat n Bond Fleece Fusible High Loft with Therm O Web Spray n Bond Basting Adhesive and lay 18½” x 18½” fabric lining on top, wrong side down. Smooth to remove wrinkles. Let dry. Quilt pillow top if desired.
Step 8: Fold 19” squares in half, wrong sides together. Press folds. Lay folded edges side-by-side, right side up, with about a 1/2” gap between them. Squeeze a small line of Therm O Web Fabric Fuse Adhesive along fabric fold. Lay wrong side of zipper along fabric folds over the Fabric Fuse making sure to keep the zipper teeth centered and away from the Fabric Fuse. Let dry. Using a straight or zig-zag stitch, sew along outside edge of zipper. Repeat on other side of zipper. Baste around edges of pillow backing.
Step 9: Place pillow top and zippered back with wrong sides together (backing will be larger than pillow front.) Trim edges and square up pillow and backing so the front and back pillow are the same size. Baste around the edges keeping edges of front and back together.
Step 10: Add binding using your favorite method.
Step 11: Place pillow form inside pillow. Zip closed. You’re ready for spring!
