.Halloween is coming and we are celebrating on the Thermoweb Blog by sharing all kinds of ideas to make the holiday a little spookier. Today, Carla from Creatin’ in the Sticks is on the blog with a fun black cat trick or treat bag using HeatnBond Soft Stretch™ LITE iron-on web adhesive.
Hi everyone, Carla here from Creatin’ in the Sticks, and I have to tell you this will be one happy Halloween for us. We have a little one in our family that is going to be the cutest black cat for Trick or Treating and I am in charge of making the bag to collect all the treats. While I was researching ideas, I came across the cutest pattern by Kim at Crafting Cheerfully and knew HeatnBond Soft Stretch™ LITE would pair perfectly with the little felt bag. Moreover, it’s the perfect size for a toddler and will be a cute little purse even after Halloween.

Instructions for HeatNBond Soft Stretch:
First, trace all of the pattern pieces onto the paper side of HeatnBond Soft Stretch™ LITE
HeatnBond Soft Stretch™ LITE is perfect for felt because it has a little stretch and isn’t stiff. Bond the traced pattern pieces on the HeatnBond Soft Stretch™ LITE to the felt with the adhesive side down. The front and back of the bag are 3 layers of black felt and Soft Stretch works perfectly to bond them together.
Next, bond the ear, eye, and nose HeatnBond Soft Stretch™ LITE pieces to the pink, white, yellow, and black felt. Cut all the pieces out on the traced lines to make the felt applique facepieces. Remove the backing paper, place all of the facepieces, and work in sections to bond the pieces all at once following the package instructions.
Stitch around each felt applique 2 times with a straight stitch and with black thread.
Embroider the whiskers and mouth with Aurifil floss.
Finally, use HeatnBond Soft Stretch™ LITE. to layer the strap felt. This strap is a little narrower than the original pattern. It is 2 1/2″ wide and because yardage was used, only one seam is needed. The strap stays nice and soft with the Soft Stretch.
The last step to finish the bag is to stitch the front cat face to the strap with a blanket stitch. Use Auriflil floss and position the zigzag of the strap on the bottom. Once the front is stitched, stitch the back of the bag in the same way.
I hope you have a Happy Halloween,
Carla
