Hey Ya’ll, I’m Jamie Mueller from Sunflower QUILTS here to tell you about these fun Best Friend Pouches I made for Valentine’s Day. I used Heat N’ Bond® Vinyl on the inside of the pouches to make these great for makeup and easy cleanup!

Here is what you’ll need (to make two pouches):

4 Coordinating Fat Quarters (I used Confetti Dots from Dear Stella)

-cut 2- 8 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ pieces for each exterior and lining of each pouch (you should have 8 pieces total)

Scrap Fabric for Heart shaped Appliqué

-cut out heart shape desired size (I used a 3″ heart cookie cutter as my stencil)

2- 12″ zippers

Embroidery Thread

Heat N’ Bond® Vinyl

-cut: 4-8 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ pieces

-attach per package directions onto the 4- 8 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ lining pieces (to the right side of fabric)

Heat N’ Bond® Featherweight Interfacing

-cut: 4- 8 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ pieces

-attach per package directions to the 4- 8 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ exterior pieces (to the wrong side of fabric)

Fabric Fuse™ Liquid Glue

Coordinating Thread

Pouch Assembly:

*BEFORE assembling the entire pouch, you’ll need to add the heart appliqué and interfacing to the exterior of the pouches and the vinyl to the lining of the pouch.

1. Take your heart shape cut out and cut a jagged line down the center, resembling a broken heart, so you have two half heart pieces. You will attach one half to one exterior piece for pouch #1 and one half to one exterior piece for pouch #2.

2. Using the Fabric Fuse™, as directed on the packaging, glue one heart half to one exterior piece for pouch #1. Allow to dry. Repeat with second heart half and one exterior piece for pouch #2. Allow to dry.

3. Using embroidery floss, embroider “BE   FRI” inside of heart half on pouch #1 and embroider “ST  END” inside of heart half on pouch #2. You can also embroider a decorative stitch along the outside of the heart half if desired.

After attaching heart halves and HeatnBond® Feather Weight Interfacing onto the exterior pieces of the pouch and the HeatnBond® Iron-On Vinyl to the lining pieces of the pouch, assemble zipper pouch.

*If you need help sewing a zipper pouch, I have detailed instructions HERE on my blog with photos to help.
