Hi! It’s Jen Belnap with The Smitten Chicken. Today I am sharing the CUTEST dress with you today! Do you want to make one too? This post will help you get that first day of school cute outfit!
First of all, did you know that Thermoweb sells Interfacing? They have lots of options for any type of fabric. They also have sew-in or fusible. I prefer fusible because it’s fast! Check out their website for any and all of your interfacing needs! I chose the shirt weight interfacing for this dress. It is linked below! Let’s get sewing!
Back To School Dress
Supplies you will need:
3/4 yard main fabric (I used Seaside by Tasha Noel for Riley Blake)
5/8 yard contrasting fabric (I used Seaside again because it’s sew cute!)
HeatnBond Non-Woven Fusible Shirt Weight Interfacing (3/8″ yard)
2- 1/2″ buttons
Sewing machine
Thread
Simplicity 3511 Sewing Pattern (available for purchase on Etsy and Amazon)
Alternate Dress Option FREE Pattern
With all the kids home for the summer, my sewing time is at night! Here is a little late-night sewing for you! Can you relate?
After cutting everything out, you need to fuse the interfacing to the yoke as stated in the pattern. I love to use my Oliso iron. It gets super hot! Plus it’s pink!
TIP: I trim my interfacing 1/2″ around the entire piece. This will reduce the bulk when stitching the dress together.
Then follow the pattern to construct the dress. This comes together super fast! Which was perfect for me with limited sewing hours during the Summer.
And you have one super cute dress for the first day of school! This little one is starting joy school with Mommy! We are so excited!
Thanks for following along today. If you would like to see more of what I’m working on, you can follow along with me on my blog, Instagram, Facebook or Pinterest.
Chirp Out!
