Are you ready for back to school season? I’m a huge fan of school supplies and always end up buying a few new goodies for myself while shopping for my kids. With a new school year comes schedules, homework, sports and lots and lots of things to remember. And there’s nothing better for keeping track of everything to remember and get done than a decked out planner. I’m here to help you today with a free pattern to make your own planner clip using just felt and FabricFuse fabric adhesive!
Ready to get organized in the cutest way possible?
No-Sew Apple Planner Clip Pattern
Supplies:
To make your planner clip you will need:
- Felt- Red, green, white and brown. Small scraps are all that are necessary.
- Fabric Fuse Liquid Fabric Adhesive
- Paper Clip
- Apple Pattern
- Freezer Paper- *note- this is optional, but it is my favorite way to cut patterns out of felt
Cut out Pattern Pieces:
Trace all your pattern pieces onto the paper side of freezer paper. Cut out each pattern piece leaving a small margin around each piece. Use a medium heat iron with no steam to fuse the waxy side of the freezer paper to the felt. Cut out each felt piece along the traced line. Remove the freezer paper from the pattern piece. *note: There are two apple options included in the pattern- one with a bit of shine, and one sliced open to reveal the core.
Assemble the planner clip:
Position the apple pieces as desired and one at a time lift up each piece, add a tiny amount of FabricFuse fabric adhesive to the back of the felt piece and position into place. For the planner clip, I build the colored pieces onto the white background piece. If you would like a bit more bulk to your planner clip, you can cut out two background pieces, add the colored pieces to one and place the paper clip between that one and the second one. *Option two: you can add some embroidery details by stitching on the shine, adding texture to the leaves or stitching on the seeds on the apple core- do this BEFORE gluing the pieces together.
Before gluing the bottom of the apple together place a paper clip halfway onto the felt- make sure you are gluing the single side of the paper clip into the apple and not the side with two loops. Set aside your planner clip and allow to dry.
Some additional tips: Make sure to get the Fabric Fuse Liquid Adhesive all the way to the edges to ensure a good seal around the planner clip. While you want to make sure to get a good seal- a small amount of FabricFuse goes a long way, so don’t add too much to your pattern pieces.
This apple pattern would also make a great applique on a pencil pouch like this one you can find on my blog.
Happy Organizing my friends! xoxo, Amy
