I had this gorgeous bundle of Meriwether fabric by Amy Gibson to work with. I paired the fabrics up for each of the bags I made. I have three girls so my plan was to make three sets of each of the chunky wee zippy pouches for a total of 9 bags.
Instructions to Make the Zippy Pouches:
My daughter Capri was amazed that the fabric collection just happened to feature mint, pink and blue fabrics … each of the girls’ favorites.
I started with the set of mint bags.
I love using HeatNBond products when I make bags. I pulled two fabrics, a complimentary zipper and HeatNBond Fusible Fleece – a great liner. I like the HeatNBond fusible fleece for these backs because while it’s stiff enough to hold shape, it’s not so stiff that the bag is rigid.
Layer the two fabrics wrong sides to the fusible fleece. With an iron press the fusible fleece the fabric that was going on the outside of the bag. Use SprayNBond Basting Adhesive to secure the inside fabric to the fusible fleece.
Once the fabrics were sandwiched and secured, Sam Hunter’s instructions for making the Chunky Wee Zippy pouch were incredibly easy to follow and understand. Before I knew it I had my very first square Chunky Wee Zippy Pouch.
I decided that the large, square Chunky Wee Zippy Pouches were perfect for a little DecoFoil embellishment.
Place a square of iCraft® Deco Foil™Hot Melt Adhesive over one side to get the proper size to work with. I then free motion drew out a fancy “C” (for Capri). Because I wanted it fancy I first drew it as a single line and then outlined it to make it thicker.
Cut these C out near the outer lines. Place the C on the bag as you desire. I made sure the zipper was on the top of the bag when I did this.
Take a Pressing Sheet and lay it over the C. Press for 30 seconds. Let the Deco Foil™ Hot Melt adhesive cool down. Seriously, let it cool down.
Let it cool down even more. And once it’s 100% cooled down, peel the paper off.
Lay pieces of silver stars DecoFoil™ over the C.
Take a Pressing Sheet and lay it over the DecoFoil. Press for 30 seconds. Let it cool down.
Once it is completely cooled down, peel the DecoFoil off. Voila!
I repeated the same process for the pink bags with a Deco Foil “M” for Mercedi
and blue bags with a DecoFoiled “P” for Pip.
I had enough fabric that I made a few extra of the larger chunky wee bags too. I haven’t embellished these with anything yet … we’ll see if it happens or not.
And now that I’ve finished writing up this post I am going to give my girls their bags! I’m sure they’re going to be thrilled to have some great back to school supply accessories!
