All Trick or Treat Cards with Flock
Hello everyone! My name is Justin Adkins. I am a paper crafter living in the Chicago suburban area, and I am so thrilled to be a Therm O Web Guest Designer for the month of September! I must admit, holiday crafting is my absolute favorite type of crafting, so words cannot even express how spooky excited I am to be sharing a Halloween card with you today!
I adore all things Halloween and thought it would be extra special to share 2-for-1 flocking tricks, which will get you 2 very special treats at the end… So let’s get started!
Start With Your Background
I absolutely love the Rina K Electro-Pop lineup, so I knew that I wanted to use some Screamin’ Green Electro-Pop Neon Flock to create some spooky Halloween fun! For this project, I pre-colored up a few images from the Pink & Main sets Batty for You and Hello Bootiful. We’ll get to the images later on! For my background, I pre-cut an A2-sized piece of Strathmore Bristol Smooth Cardstock, and blended it up with Catherine Pooler Lime Rickey & Grass Skirt Inks. I also splattered some of the latter ink for a speckled effect.
Once my panel was dry, I sprayed a light layer of Pixie Spray on the back of my Psychedelic Twist stencil by Sassy & Crafty. Once I let it sit for about a minute, I applied my stencil to my A2 panel. Using my Stencil Pal, I applied an even layer of Deco Foil Transfer Gel Duo. I carefully removed my stencil, set my card panel aside to dry, and immediately washed off my stencil and Stencil Pal.
Pressure or Heat Transfer?
What I love about the Deco Foil Transfer Gel Duo is that you can choose to use it with either a Heat Transfer method (i.e. a laminator) or a Pressure Transfer Method (i.e. your die cutting machine). Now, a little back story regarding this project: My existing laminator decided to stop working on me earlier this week! Now, I did get a replacement on order, and I was unsure when it would arrive. Even though I had this project on the docket to be completed during the week, I didn’t even break a sweat that I was without a Heat Transfer method, as I knew I would get the same great result using my die cutting machine!
Once my Transfer Gel Duo was dry, I placed a piece of Screamin’ Green Electro-Pop Neon Flock onto my panel with the flock touching the tacky Transfer Gel Duo, placed it into my die cutting sandwich, and ran it through my machine. I removed my flock sheet from my card panel, and was left with a perfectly fuzzy background!
A 2-for-1 Trick With Your Flock Transfer Sheet
In the image above, the A2 panel on the left side is the panel that I had ink-blended up and applied the Deco Foil Transfer Gel Duo onto. On the right side, you can see the trimmed down Screamin’ Green Electro-Pop Neon Flock transfer sheet that I trimmed down to A2-sized, and planned on using the negative side for a 2nd card as well! Never throw away your Therm O Web scraps, because you’ll always be able to find a new use for them later down the road!
How About a 2-for-1 Sentiment Trick Too?
Since I had 2 card panels to work with, I figured I may as well complete 2 cards to share! Using the “trick or treat” die from the Big Boo and Trick Creative Cuts by Mama Elephant, I cut out 6 die cuts from white cardstock, and 1 die-cut from Orange Glow Electro-Pop Neon Flock. Since I was working with 2 cards, I adhered 3 of the white cardstock die cuts together using my iCraft Ultra Bond Permanent Dries Clear Adhesive Pen, giving me 2 extra thick die cuts to work with.
I was partially inspired by Candy Corn for the sentiment, so I took my Orange Glow Flock die cut and cut it directly in half using my guillotine trimmer. I adhered each half to its own die-cut, and got a fantastic 2-tone effect! Now that I had all my pieces together, it was ready to be assembled!
Finishing Up For 2 Sweet Treats
Using my pre-colored Batty for You images, adhered my little bats on first to my ink-blended panel, and then adhered my word die-cut directly on top. I did notice that I needed a little extra pressure when adhering on top of the flock, which was very quickly remedied when I took some of my larger acrylic stamping blocks and placed them on top of the areas needing some extra pressure to adhere correctly. It worked like a charm!
For my flock transfer sheet panel, I adhered a few ghosts from the Hello Bootiful set! For both projects, I adhered some embellishments from the Monster Mash Sparkle Blend by Doodles Paper Playground, just for a little extra fun! And bam! 2 projects done in only a couple minutes more than the time it would take to complete 1!
