Alice's Quilt

Hi everyone, it’s Amy here today to share the story behind this quilt for Alice made by the ThermOWeb design team quilters.

Alice Golden, one our of talented paper crafters, has been fighting ovarian cancer for the past several months. Her recent scans show that she has won that battle! As soon as I heard about Alice’s diagnosis, I wanted to send her a quilt. It’s sort of the gut reaction of a quilter, I think. But it was hard to find the time! Finally, I decided it was a now or never thing and that Alice deserved it.

I asked our Education Coordinator, Julia Sandvoss, for contact information for the rest of the team. I wrote to them asking them to please send me 12″ blocks with flowers in cheerful shades of cherry red, tangerine, lemon yellow, lime green, aqua and purple. They were to applique the flowers using HeatnBond® Lite. (many of the  designers used our new HeatnBond® Lite EZ Print Sheets!) Once I received the blocks, I stitched around the outer edges of the flowers which allowed team members who are not strong sewists to still participate.

The quilt background and sashing where just quilted with a simple stipple, leaving the flowers unquilted.

I added a label to the back to let Alice know that this quilt was made just for her by the design team. She has been in our thoughts and prayers throughout her battle with cancer.

Alice received the quilt last month and just loves it to bits which is so gratifying! A huge thank you to all the quilters who participated to make this a success: Julia Sandvoss, Audrey Petit, Nicole Daksiewicz, Jennifer Heynen, Molly Hansen, Andy Knowlton, ans Jenifer Cowles.

You guys are the best! The quilt is so beautiful and I have spent many hours curled up with it on my porch this summer. I’m looking forward to getting back in the swing of this with the Therm O Web gang this fall!
