Katrina from Paper, Scissors and Glue on the ThermOWeb blog today to share a fun little DIY home decor project for Valentine’s Day. This could actually be done with a more generic theme, so that you could keep it out all year round. Also great for a wedding decoration!

I have a step by step basic guide to create this piece along with a few tips and tricks for working with the DecoFoil product!
1. Cut pattern paper smaller than wooden block, leaving room for ribbon to hang out from underneath.
2. Cut four pieces of ribbon that will go around your pattern paper. Attach iCraft SuperTape™ to the ribbon and then adhere it to the back of the pattern paper square.
TIP: Cut ribbon to overlap slightly for a more finished look.
3. Cut a piece of lightweight chipboard slightly smaller than your pattern paper. This will be a backing piece for the center to make it a little sturdier. Attach chipboard with Sticky Tape Mini Tab Runner.
4. Apply Foam Strips to the back of center piece. Attach to wooden block.
5. Cut a heart slightly smaller than your center piece of pattern paper. Line the back with Foam Squares in 1/4 inch so that the heart will pop up in the center of the project.
TIP: To keep things level you not only want to apply foam squares around the edges of your shapes, but also fill in the center so that there is no sagging where there isn’t any foam adhesive. It doesn’t have to be filled in completely, just enough to support your paper.
Now the fun begins with the iCraft® DecoFoil™! The hardest part might be picking out your color to use. I choose gold, partially because I am in love with it right now, but also because the birdcage sticker had a gold feel to it.
6. Use the White DecoFoil Foam Adhesive to create your saying. Use either a manual die cutting machine or an electronic one, depending on your idea.
TIP: I used my Silhouette Cameo with the following settings: Stamp Material Preset in the Silhouette software; Speed is 1; Blade is 8; Thickness is 25; Double Cut On. This takes a little patience to figure out, but the results are worth it. I should have probably had my blade on 9 or 10, but I had already cut and unloaded my mat before I figured this out. Depending on the font/design, you may have to cut a little larger than you think and play with your settings. This happened here, but I like the larger font!
7. Once you have your cut out, remove the covering on the top sheet of the foam adhesive. A pair of tweezers comes in very handy for this.
8. Take your transfer sheet of DecoFoil and apply it to the top of your die cut with the gray backside touching the adhesive die cut. This means color side up! Rub with your fingers to transfer the foil onto the die cut. A good indicator of the foil being ready is to be able to see the shape of your die cut underneath.
TIP: Make sure to get in your little open areas. Tweezers or small tools, such as a quilling tool, work well for this. Also, SLOWLY pull the foil up. If you didn’t get an area covered, don’t panic, just place the foil back down and rub over that area.
9. Once you have all your die cuts foiled, then place them on the heart. Add embellishments as you liked on your project.
10. Use Fabric Fuse Liquid Adhesive to attach your wooden veneers. (My bottle is well loved and used!)
TIP: Don’t throw away the “scraps” from your foam adhesive die cuts, use them on your project. Here I used a small piece to pop up the arrow, instead of just leaving it flat.
Thanks for coming by the ThermOWeb blog today! Get your hands on DecoFoil, it’s going to be BIG!
