Hello and welcome!

It’s Julia from Inflorescence Designs! I’m so joyful you are visiting today!  For today’s tutorial, I am sharing how to add Soft Woven Fusible to create a stable place for adding crochet to a sweater.

Crochet Sleeves on a Store-Bought Sweater

Supplies:

Instructions:

The majority of the instructions can be found on a YouTube video created by Days Crochet-Modern Crochet Patterns.  The details on this page are simply how to add fusible interfacing. In the video, Days Crochet explains that adding interfacing to the cut portion of the sleeve helps keep the holes from sagging over time due to the weight of the yarn and sleeves themselves.

Begin by…

Cut off the sleeves of your store-bought sweatshirt.  I left about 2″ of sleeve past the seam that connects the sleeves to the main body of the sweatshirt. Fuse the HeatnBond Soft Woven Fusible Interfacing to that area. Repeat for the other sleeve.

Next…

I advise finishing off the raw edge of the sweatshirt for longevity.  I use my serger (or you can use a zigzag stitch) to finish off the edges of each sleeve.

Then…

Fold over the sleeve all the way around and pin in place. Sew all the way around to create a hem at the end of the sleeve–this stitching will show so I advise using matching or coordinating thread. I use a green thread.  At this point, follow the instructions in the video to add the crochet holes and to begin the crochet pattern.

I love the sweatshirt I made.  I did not do full length sleeves as I like to have mine shorter for the classroom.  For my particular sweatshirt, I just crocheted to the length I preferred and then added a final scalloped edge for finishing.

This sweatshirt is so comfy! It even matches the bracelets I made back in January 2024! You can find the link to that tutorial HERE!

Thank you for visiting today!  Come back soon to see what else will be starting to bloom with Inflorescence Designs!
