I’ve come to realize that I am addicted to creating flowers. I love the images of flowers, the colors, the shapes and variety. So my “Favorite” block is an appliqued flower.
Let’s get to it!
“Bloom” seems to be an appropriate name for a flower block! I wanted one that was kind of ‘free styling’. My block is number 19…. LUCKY 19 thank you very much!

Print the pattern and get out your HeatnBond® lite for some fusible fun!
Trace all the shapes. I left these as full fusible on the 6″ block. There is also a 12″ version in the pattern and I might have cut out the insides to make that one soft. But this one is too small for me to do that.. well I COULD do it but didn’t.. wink!
I am using my Eat Your Fruits and Veggies fabric..yes.. even that great yellow is my fabric line! Hancock’s of Paducah has it online… so get yourself some!

I used rick rack for the stem. I keep a lot of my rick rack on old spools and ‘that’ green is some I’m hoarding and ONLY using for the BEST blocks.
To position the rick rack, lay a LINE OF GLUE, then put the rick rack on top! I secured this project with French knots in Aurifil 12wt. But you can just sew a straight line down the center and call it done.
All the pieces ready to lay out.. cut them out, position.. then fire up the sewing machine!
I just switched my Janome machine to a newer model. I did a test drive in October of this Janome Horizon 8900 and I LOVE IT.. LOVE LOVE LOVE…
Blanket stitching with my open toe applique foot.
A MUST HAVE tool
And here she is! All ready to go into a project.
What about a sweet repeat? Or a row for a table runner?
But what I am REALLY going to do with this block? I have been making a lot of things with my “Eat your Fruits and Veggies” fabrics and in the process have collected up random bits and blocks. I think I may look for the rest and put them together somehow. Maybe create a block around this flower, maybe not. I know I have some other 12″ orange blocks..
Green, Orange, Purple blocks… I kind of like the challenge of just making them ‘fit’. Sort of like Victoria’s ‘Kitchen Sink’..although faster as she built that one over many years of orphan blocks.
What is YOUR Favorite Block?
