Hello friends! I am so excited about this latest collection of fabric designed by Jennifer Long. It is called Created With Love and it has so many precious little characters.
I made the sweetest small backpack that is the just the perfect size for a young(ish) child. The backpack is made from a pattern I purchased by Craft Owl called the Lark Backpack. I highly recommend this pattern as it was easy to follow and easy to sew! She also has an amazing video tutorial that is included when you purchase the pattern. And this fabric… BUY the fabric!!!!!
I really love how this fabric collection looks in this backpack. It is such fun colors and patterns that made it so easy to showcase!
I also designed and made a simple pencil pouch and you can download my free pattern and tutorial by clicking here. The supplies are minimal and it can be made so quickly! Pairing it with the Lark Backpack makes for a super fun gift.
I had fun adding some Sparkle Paste to the exterior fabrics of the pencil pouch. If you haven’t tried Sparkle Paste, you need to!!! It just adds a little sparkly bling to your projects!

Supplies
- Fabric for outer and lining of bag
- Fabric scrap for tabs
- Optional: swivel snap
- HeatnBond Fusible Fleece
- Pressing Paper
- Optional: Sparkle Paste
- 14 inch zipper (do not use a zipper with metal teeth)
- Printable Tutorial
If you are a beginner sewist and you’ve never installed a zipper before; THIS is a great beginner project! You’ll feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment! And you know the pouches that you see that have the seam that creates a “box”?
