Happy October!
This is the time of year when I’m eager to create a new Halloween project but also realize that I’m running out of time (especially when my kids are requesting costume help at the same time!).

This year I’ve created the perfect last-minute Halloween decoration, and even better, it’s no-sew, so it’s friendly for everyone! I made both of these versions in less than in hour, so it’s a quick project.

Meet Framed Jack.

Earlier this year, I was introduced to Deco Foil. And it is awesome! Paired with Deco Foil Hot Melt Adhesive, it allows me to add metallic foil accents to any project. Since it is October, I decided to “carve” a jack o’lantern. I “carved” two different jack o’lantern designs – here’s the second one!

Keep reading to learn how to make your own.

Materials:
9″ square of black fabric
Deco Foil Hot Melt Adhesive
Copper Deco Foil
Frame (mine is an 8″ square black frame)

Making a Framed Jack

Step 1 Trace the jack o’lantern template onto the paper side of a piece of Hot Melt Adhesive (trim the sheet to slightly larger than your template).

Step 2 Carefully cut out the jack o’lantern around the outer edges, and also cut out the eyes, nose and mouth shape.

Step 3 Center the jack o’lantern shape on the 9″ fabric square, with the rough side down.

Step 4 Fold the pressing paper over the top, shiny side down, and press, following manufacturer’s directions.

Step 5 After the adhesive cools, gently peel off the paper.

Step 6 Cut a Copper Foil piece slightly larger than the template, lay wrong side down on the adhesive shape, cover with the pressing paper and fuse, following manufacturer’s directions. Note: The directions say to press down firmly. I found that the more firmly I pressed, the more successful my results were. Press hard.

Step 7 After the foil cools, carefully peel off the excess foil.

Here’s what my finished pumpkin looks like! (The metallic foil makes it look multicolor, but I promise it’s actually copper!)

I am going to display these two Framed Jacks for Halloween this year!
