Hi everyone, I’m Amy Barickman, founder of Indygo Junction sewing patterns and author of many books, including my best-selling Vintage Notions. I’m so excited to be here today to share with you my NEW Treasured Threadz™ Collection and some of my favorite HeatnBond® fusible products! I’ve also got some fun upcycling projects to show you using my FREE Heart to Art pattern download just in time for Earth Day!
I hope you’ll enjoy this Treasured Threadz™ post, it’s the kickoff to a whole month of Treasured Threadz™ project reveals! I’ve sent all five of my new fabric panels to the super creative Therm O Web Design Team, and I can’t wait to see what they create! Check the blog throughout April to see all the projects!
My new Treasured Threadz™ collection is a partnership with Colonial Patterns and a culmination of my love for vintage textiles and passion for recycling fabrics. I have curated and designed five new Treasured Threadz™ fabric panels into original works of art using my collection of rare vintage art, textiles and quilts – all of which are perfect for embroidery, quilting, stitching or collaging. These panels are ideal for applique and small projects, and each panel has dozens of patterns and designs that have been selected to perfectly coordinate. The Treasured Threadz™ panels are great for creating faux patchwork and will make creating your own handmade style so quick and easy!
To learn more about Treasured Threadz™ fabrics and Favorite Fusible Stabilizer, be sure to watch my video below. I’ll show you all the panel designs up close, share many ways to use the products and preview all the bonus content (like patterns, PDFs and lookbooks!) that come with a Treasured Threadz™ purchase!
I want to show you a couple super cute knits that we upcycled using the HeatnBond Soft Stretch Lite Adhesive Roll. It’s perfect for soft fabrics like tees, sweatshirts and fabrics that need a little ‘give’. For our red t-shirt, we used the Medium Heart from the Heart to Art Pattern and the Treasured Threadz™ Postage Stamp Retro Patchwork Panel.
First, we cut the Medium Heart out of the HeatnBond Soft Stretch Lite and ironed it to our fabric following instructions on the package. Next, cut out your fabric heart with pinking shears, about ½” larger than your Soft Stretch heart. If you want to add any embroidery, now is the time! HeatnBond Soft Stretch will help stabilize the fabric for embroidery, so no hoop will be required! Just iron the heart to your shirt following the instructions on the package and this project is ready to wear!
For our blue sweatshirt, it had a logo printed on it, so we turned it to the wrong side and cut off the neck and cuffs to give it a new look. A quick roll and stitch of the cut edges will stabilize the neckline and cuffs. We used the Large Heart from the Heart to Art Pattern and the Treasured Threadz™ Missouri Star Blue Patchwork Panel.
To add some dimension to your heart, add a layer of batting. I use my Favorite Fusible Stabilizer but you could easily cut the heart from a thin sew-in batting and use Therm O Web’s Fabric Fuse Liquid Adhesive to achieve similar results. This extra support makes it easy to add as much quilting and decorative embroidery as you like! You can clip the curves to achieve a smooth edge. I find having Fabric Fuse on-hand for any repositioning of edges very helpful. The bottle’s fine tip is perfect for easy touch-ups of seams or small pieces.
Because of the thickness of the sweatshirt, you will need to stitch down the heart to secure it. You can also use the Fabric Fuse Liquid for a quick and easy way to attach your heart to your shirt, it’s super strong and really holds up in the washing machine!
Jean Jackets are an ideal upcycle project for Treasured Threadz™ and so popular! Our upcycled child’s jean jacket was created with HeatnBond Lite Sewable Iron-On Adhesive. It is best used for wovens, denims and non-stretchy fabrics, but keep in mind that it will need to be sewn down (not just ironed on). This jacket used the Medium Heart from the Heart to Art Pattern and the Treasured Threadz™ Postage Stamp Retro Patchwork Panel. For the adorable ric-rac edging, we simply glued it on with the Fabric Fuse Liquid Adhesive! Honestly, this couldn’t get any easier!

April 23, 2024 at 12:16 pm (8 months ago)Hi Nancy G,
When you visit http://www.thermoweb.com/#TreasuredThreadzTOW, it takes just a moment for the contest entry screen to pop up over the website page. Do be sure you’ve used a “z” in Threadz … I forgot to do that when I was double-checking the links the first time, so only the main thermoweb.com page showed up. If you are still having difficulty accessing the contest entry, please send an email to [email protected], and we’ll get you entered. Thank you!!
