Hello and welcome!

It’s Julia from Inflorescence Designs! I’m so joyful you are visiting today. This week we are discovering all things Pumpkin Spice! I love the smell of fall, and that includes the warm aroma of pumpkin spices like cinnamon, clove and nutmeg.  When the weather cools and the humidity subsides, I love to open the windows and light a candle to freshen up the house.

But can anyone else relate to the candle label not matching their decor? Or the black soot may be building up and darkening the once crystal-clear glass?  Or in my case, one of my favorite autumn-smelling candles happens to have a Christmas theme label and let’s face it we are not going to start decorating for that season too early.  I love pumpkins and I let those decorations stay up from Labor Day to Thanksgiving!

This fun little tutorial will solve all those problems.  It’s similar to a coffee cup collar but for your candles! What’s even better is the pattern is REVERSIBLE! You can make one side for fall and the other for Halloween, Christmas or even winter.

Reversible Pumpkin Spice Candle Collar

Beginner sewing pattern!

Supplies:

The candle I used is a Bath and Body Works Candle.  The measurements work for this specific candle.  However, it is easy to adjust the sizing.  To change the sizing, take a piece of paper and wrap it around the candle jar.  Make sure there is an overlap of at least 1.5″. Add a 1/2″ to this measurement and add a 1/2″ to the width as well.

  • Thermoweb HeatnBond Fusible Fleece: (1) 14″ x 3″
  •  Fabric for front and back: (2) 14 1/2″ x 3 1/2″
  • Velcro: 3/4″ x 2 1/2″
  • Oliso Iron
  • Basic sewing notions
  • (Optional) HeatnBond Ultra and fabric for appliqué

Instructions:

Begin by…

Fuse the fleece to the wrong side of one piece of fabric.

Next…

Place the piece you just fused on top of the other piece of fabric right sides together.  Using the fleece as a guide sew a 1/4″ all the way around leaving a 2″-3″ opening on a long edge for turning. Clip the corners and turn the right side out.  Press.

Continue by…

Top stitch around the candle collar at 1/8″ closing the opening.  Arrange the Velcro and top stitch around the Velcro to secure it.

Finally…

Applique if desired.  I used HeatnBond Ultra so no sewing was required.  The photos below show how it can be reversible! Once side was made for autumn and the other for Christmas.

Finished!
