Jungle Layout Details

Two-page layouts are a little overwhelming for me, so I usually always start with a sketch. A great place to find a variety of sized sketches is over at PageMaps. It’s my go-to sketch lookup for double-page sketches. The sketch I used is from the April selection of sketches. And a little tip…you can put the JPG sketch image into Silhouette Studio and be able to see what size you need to cut your pieces of pattern papers!!

I started my layout by cutting two 3×12 strips of pattern paper for the left side of the layout. Because my paper was nondirectional I was able to also cut a 2×12 matching strip for the right side of the layout. I used my iCraft Easy Tear Tape to adhere to the larger strips done. Have I told you I love that tape?! If not, I do!

Creating The Jungle Title Element

This was the part that was the most work of this layout, I am not going to lie! It went one direction and then another and finally ended up where I was happy with what I had! I used a cut file, my Silhouette Cameo, and white cardstock. I chose white because I could easily alter the color to what I wanted.

Before cutting out the file, I knew I wanted the leafy inside parts to be covered in the flock. My problem was how to do it. I ended up cutting out the cut file, along with a solid cut that I could back the cut file with. My first idea was to number each piece and flock them individually, but after starting, I realized that wasn’t going to work.

Moving on to the next option, I decided to carefully piece the leafy parts back into place using the cut file as a guide to get the pieces where they needed to go. Using my Memory Runner XL made this tedious process a little faster than using a liquid adhesive, which I had first thought about.

After getting everything that was leafy pieced back together, I covered everything with the Deco Foil Transfer Gel in Blanco. I cut down one of the new Carrier Sheets to lay it on to dry. This was perfect because the cut file just peeled right up after drying and I easily cleaned the carrier sheet for the next use!

When my gel was dry, I selected the flock in Green Envy to be the color choice. Now, I knew going in, that I didn’t have every area covered well or at all with the gel. I just couldn’t tell because I was on white cardstock!

Working With My Results

Here is how it came out! But since I had used white cardstock, I didn’t panic and it actually worked out in my favor! I used 3-4 different colors of Catherine Pooler Inks in greens and just blended until I was happy with how it looked.

Once I had the backing portion of the cut file inked, I moved on to the outline part of the cut file. I ink blended in a couple of different greens on it also. Once I had it ink blended, I used the Ultra Bond Liquid Adhesive with a fine tip to adhere it to the flocked backing piece.

The only thing left to do now was the lettering. I cut the file again and trimmed out the “into the”, inked the pieces in a deep blue, and then adhered them with the Ultra Bond liquid. I traced the letters for WILD onto some pink patterned paper, trimmed them out, and then adhered them with the 3D Foam Tape to give them some dimension.

And how cute is this??? I adhered the entire piece to my layout with the 3D Foam Tape also. I just added the word “jungle” with some white letter stickers in the paper collection.

Since this is a jungle-themed layout, I needed some jungle animals as embellishments! I stamped and die cut the images from the Take A Peek stamp set and colored them in with some ink. I used the Pixie Tape to hold my dies in place while running them thru my Gemini. Ekk, they are so cute!

I popped up each animal with the 3D Foam tape to make them pop off the page.

Creating Extra Leaves

Last, but not least, I wanted to create some extra leaves to spread around and tuck under pictures. I used the Leaf Mix set from Altenew, along with Easy Cut Adhesive and Deco Foil Flock.

There are two different ways to do this, one gives you more of the die detail and that is the option I went with. Adhere your Easy Cut Adhesive to cardstock. Then you want to remove the protective covering and lay a flock transfer sheet, flock side down, onto the sticky adhesive.

Take this and run it thru your die-cutting machine to transfer the flock. Peel away the flock transfer sheet and you end up with flock transferred to cardstock. Then you will want to place your dies face down on the flock and run them thru your die cut machine. This will give you the details in the dies if there are any.

The leaf on the right above was made using the method I described. The other leaf was die cut from just a combo of cardstock with Easy-Cut Adhesive, with the flock being transferred to it AFTER cutting. So, it just depends on the look you want! I cut a bunch of leaves from the Emerald Green Flock and the Green Envy Flock.

To finish up, I just stuck leaves here and there! I also used embellishments from the paper collection for fun. I think rainbow colors go well with a jungle theme, don’t you? Ugh…and that cute little hippo from the Take a Peek set!!! So adorable peeking out from my journaling area!
