DIY Baker’s Twine and Giveaway!

Hi there, Alice with you today to share a fun tip for creating inexpensive baker’s twine. They say that “necessity is the mother of invention” and that was certainly the case when I found myself in need of a longer piece of black and white baker’s twine and a deadline only a few hours away. Looking closely at the piece of twine I had, I realized it was simply two colors that were twisted together. I decided I would try to improvise and make my own. I came up with this easy technique and I’m excited to share it with you here. The SuperStik Glue Stick is the perfect choice for this as it dries completely clear yet stays flexible.

Here is what you need to get started – Scrapper’s Floss, SuperStik Glue Stick, scissors and a bit of tape. A non-stick surface to work on is helpful too – I used a cutting mat.

Cut two pieces of floss to the same length. I’ve found that a yard or less is the easiest length to work with. Cover both pieces with glue by using one hand to press each piece into the top of the glue stick and pulling the floss through the adhesive with your other hand.

Once both pieces are covered in glue, tape one end down to your work surface

and then start twisting – easy peasy!

When you have twisted the entire length, pull it taut and tape the other end to your work surface for 10 minutes or so or until the glue is dry.

You won’t believe how quick and easy this is… once you try it, you’ll be hooked!

Once I realized how easy it was to create my own baker’s twine, I had another thought… why stop at using only traditional colors? I could create custom colors of twine using different combinations of Scrapper’s Floss… once I got started, there was no looking back! Here are some of the combos I tried…

It’s surprising how a little bit of custom twine can have such a big impact… turns plain white tissue paper wrapping into something special.

Along the same lines, I used a similar technique to create a stem for an embellishment I was making for a wine journal (this would also be perfect for a pumpkin stem… or maybe a rose vine… country fence… the list goes on and on!)

I taped them to a piece of scrap paper and applied a heavy coating of SuperStik.

and once it was dry – the perfect stem!
