I truly believe in surrounding yourself with things that make you happy and bring you joy. I also like to have things that contain small reminders of what is important to me in my life. Which is why I designed this Hope mini quilt. The bright flowers and beautiful floral fabric make me happy and the message of hope is one that I truly think we could all use more of right about now! If you would like to make one too, I have the pattern and full tutorial below. The finished mini quilt measures 20″ square.
Hope Flower Mini Quilt Tutorial
Supplies:
- Heat n Bond EZ-print LITE or Featherlite
- Stitch n Sew sew-in Fleece
- Spray n Bond Basting Spray
- A fat quarter of background fabric (I am using a white fabric with a black grid for mine)
- A fat quarter of border fabric (the blue floral- from I’d Rather Be Glamping fabric line by Dani Mogstad for Riley Blake Designs)
- 2/3 yard fabric for the quilt back
- 1/4 yard binding fabric (yellow plaid- also from I’d Rather Be Glamping)
- Large scraps of fabric for flowers, word, and leaves- or fat quarters
- hope mini quilt pattern
Prepare Applique:
- print the pattern pieces onto the paper side of the EZ print lite sheets.
- Cut out around the pattern pieces leaving a slight margin- I find it easier to keep groups of the same color together (like the letters for the word Hope).
- Fuse the pattern pieces to the wrong side of the fabric chosen for each piece.
- Cut out each pattern piece along the printed line.
- Remove the paper backing from the pattern pieces.
Assemble Quilt Front:
- Cut your background fabric into a 15 1/2″ X 15 1/2″ square.
- Position the word hope in the bottom left corner of the square. Be sure to leave at least a 1 1/2″ margin on the left and bottom.
- Fuse the letters into place.
- Position the rest of the flowers and leaves as desired on the background. Again, be sure to leave at least a 1″ margin on all sides of the background.
- Fuse the pieces into place.
- Sew around each piece with either a narrow zig-zag stitch or a straight stitch. I chose to use a zig-zag stitch in a navy thread for the letters and then a straight stitch around all the other elements using white thread.
- Cut 2- 3″ X 15 1/2″ strips of your border fabric.
- Sew the borders on the left and right sides of the background.
- Press the seam toward the border fabric.
- Cut 2- 3″ X 21″ strips of border fabric.
- Sew the borders on the top and bottom of the mini quilt.
- Press the seam toward the border fabric.
Finishing the Mini Quilt:
- Cut a piece of sew-in fleece to 21″ square.
- Cut your backing fabric to 21″ X 21″.
- Use the Spray n Bond Basting spray to create your quilt sandwich.
- Backing fabric wrong side up.
- Sew-in Fleece.
- Mini Quilt front, right side up.
- Quilt your mini quilt as desired.
- Cut your binding strips to 2 1/2″ X WOF and bind the quilt.
Enjoy your gorgeous new Hope Mini Quilt!
