Hanging a banner in your home or on a door can sweetly announce an event or holiday. A banner that says “Happy Birthday” or “Welcome Home” will definitely bring a smile to a face during a joyous occasion. Holidays are especially fun to celebrate with a banner. The “Joy Christmas Banner” announces Christmas with a small but happy expression of the holiday.

HeatnBond Fusible Adhesive

If you don’t want to sew around the applique edges, Heat N Bond Ultrahold Adhesive is a great product to use to assemble the banner. Just iron the applique pieces in the same way you would if using Heat n Bond Lite, but the only sewing you’ll need to do is to sew the bias tape in place.

Crafter’s Edge Crossover

The Crafter’s Edge Crossover II makes cutting out fabric and paper a breeze. They have a variety of sewing dies to choose from, including the Crafter’s Edge Flag Pennant die. The dies have cutting edges that aren’t sharp, but when run through the machine they easily cut fabric. They are also small and easy to store without taking up a lot of space.

The Crafter’s Edge Flag Pennant die has one edge that doesn’t cut, three that do, and is placed on a fold. After cutting it opens to a full-size flag pennant.

Cut five large flag pennant out of burlap by folding burlap in half and placing the non-cutting edge of flag pennant die on the fold. Run through the machine following the manufacturer’s directions.

Prepare the fabric for the small flag pennant using iron-on adhesive; follow package directions. Iron adhesive pieces to the wrong side of fabrics following package directions.

Fold fabric with iron-on adhesive in half. Cut the same way the burlap was cut.

Peel off paper liner from the backs of flag pennants. Place small flag pennant, adhesive side down, on right side of large flag pennants. Press according to package directions until the entire piece is bonded. Let cool.

Prepare the fabric for the “J”, “Y”, wreath, and poinsettias using iron-on adhesive; follow package directions. Iron adhesive pieces to the wrong side of fabrics following package directions. Let cool. Place designs on the right side of small flag pennants, adhesive side down. Press according to package directions until the entire piece is bonded. Let cool.

Sew around edges of applique using a straight, zig-zag, or blanket stitch. DO NOT SEW AROUND APPLIQUE DESIGNS IF USING HEAT N BOND ULTRAHOLD ADHESIVE!

Sew double fold bias tape to the top of banners by sliding the banner tops between folds. Zig-zag or straight stitch close to the bottom edge.

What an adorable Christmas banner, truly full of Joy. And, oh how I love those thin dies. Way cool.
