Christmas Ornament Quilt Block Series
Designing a Christmas ornament to go along with three other designer’s blocks was challenging because they are all so amazing at what they do! The ornament that I designed popped into my head as I thought about the Christmas tree at my grandmother’s house. She had such ornate glass ornaments hanging on her tree! Some of them were worn with age, but most were still beautiful year after year. I wish I still had some of them for my tree!

Christmas Ornament BlockTo make this block you’ll need:

My Vintage Christmas Ornament

HeatnBond Lite, Iron-on Adhesive

Iron – I use a purple Oliso iron because it makes me smile!

Fabric – The fabric in this block is O’ Christmas Tree by Windham

Such a beautiful line of fabrics by Windham…the gold even sparkles!

Holiday Ornament Quilt Block Series Instructions:

To get started, cut out a square of fabric 12 ½” by 12 ½” (your finished block will be 12″ x 12″.) Next trace the pattern pieces on the smooth side of HeatnBond Lite, Iron-on Adhesive. Cut around the pieces at least 1/4″ from the drawn edge.

Iron adhesive pieces to wrong sides of fabrics with a medium heat iron, no steam. Press for 2 seconds. Repeat until all surfaces have been bonded to the fabric. Let cool.

Thermoweb ornament2

Cut out applique pieces on drawn lines. Peel off paper liner. You won’t need a pin to scratch the surface to remove the paper liner when you use HeatnBond Lite, Iron-on Adhesive. It peels off so easy!

Thermoweb ornament3

Place applique shape, adhesive side down, on top of the project. Press and hold iron for 6 seconds on each section until the entire piece is bonded. Let cool.

Thermoweb ornament4

Sew around edges using a straight, zig-zag, or blanket stitch.

That’s it! Once you’ve assembled the blocks from the other designers you’ll be ready to make a project. There will be a total of four blocks by designers Carla Henton, Amy Warner, Amanda Niederhauser, and me. Watch for the blocks and final projects here on the Therm O Web blog!

Be sure to join us this week for the next 2 patterns in this holiday ornament series plus the finale post showing all the completed projects! Join Designers Carla Henton, Carol Swift, Amy Warner and Amanda Neiderhauser as each share their Holiday Ornament Block!

Another fabulous block in the series. I think I have a couple of these ornaments from my parents.

This is such a nice addition to Carla’s block. The fabrics are great too.
