I love ric rac trim and always welcome an excuse to add it to my sewing projects!  Today I’ve added it to a miniature placemat for my toddler and wanted to show you why I enlist my Super Stik permanent glue stick for all my ric rac projects.

To begin, I’ve already constructed the placemat-top and am ready to embellish with the ric rac trim. First, I cut a piece of ric rac trim a little longer than what is needed.  Next, I apply the Super Stik glue to the back.

Next, I position the ric rac and press in place.  Once the glue dries, the ric rac will stay firmly in place, no pins needed!

At this point, I trim the ric rac piece for an exact fit..

Using thread to match, I sew the ric rac in place by sewing a straight line down the center. I’m sure the line isn’t perfectly straight, but it’s impossible to tell since the thread matches perfectly.

Now that the ric rac trim is securely in place, I will continue with the basting, quilting, and binding steps. I sure hope Olive likes it! Looks like it’s time for a tea party!
