AudreyPettit Thermoweb DecoFoil OwlHanger2This fun owl stuffie is a great summertime sewing project, that’s suited for crafters of all ages and skill levels. If you’re handy with a sewing machine, you can turn out this little guy in just a matter of minutes. But if that’s not your skill set, no problem…. this sweet project can just as easily be sewn by hand, or held together with Therm O Web Fabric Fuse™ Liquid Adhesive or Fabric Fuse™ Tape. Simply fold your fabric of choice together (with right sides facing), and free-hand cut or trace and cut a basic owl shape onto the fabric. Stitch around the edges (again with right sides facing), leaving an opening large enough to turn your owl right side out and stuff before hand-stitching closed. Create facial features from buttons and felt. These can be hand-stitched in place, or secured with Fabric Fuse™ Liquid Adhesive.

Then have fun dressing up your owl however you wish. I added a big fabric bow, and then stitched my owl to a branch to give him a perch. Added wire for a hanger, and a pair of hand embroidered leaves. To give my leaves enough stability to stand up on their own, I sandwiched Therm O Web Stitchn’Sew™ Fleece between two layers green fabric before adding my embroidery and  free-hand cutting them out.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb DecoFoil OwlHangerTut1For the flower, die cut a large rolled flower from iCraft® Deco Foil™ White Foam Adhesive. A steel-edged die works best for this application, to cut through both the foam and two layers of protective liners.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb DecoFoil OwlHangerTut2Peel off the top protective liner from the die cut foam. Cut a piece of gold iCraft® Deco Foil™ Transfer Sheet that is slightly larger than your flower. Press the foil down onto the die cut, with the gold colored side up and the silver side down.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb DecoFoil OwlHangerTut3Rub over the entire shape with the tip of your finger, and then peel back the transfer sheet to reveal your foiled flower. If you missed a spot, lay the foil back down and rub some more.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb DecoFoil OwlHangerTut4Now coil the flower and secure the end with a bit of liquid Fabric Fuse™ adhesive. Add a button to the center of the flower, too.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb DecoFoil OwlHanger3Attach the flower to the stick, hang your little owl, and enjoy!
