Hello! I’m so happy it’s summer, and I don’t know about you, but I’m getting ready to start my Independence Day decorating. The Fourth of July is going to look a little different this year in many ways, but we are going to celebrate anyway, even if we have to stay home! This year I created this fun little applique of the land that I love, the USA, and today I am showing you how I made it so you can make one too!

Supplies Needed

Sewing Instructions

  • Trace the templates on to the paper side of the Heat n Bond. Patterns have been reversed for you, so trace them as printed.
  • Cut around the traced patterns, and fuse them to the wrong side of your fabric pieces.

  • After the Heat n Bond is fused in place, cut out shapes along the line.

  • Remove the cardboard insert from your frame. Place it on your background fabric, and cut the fabric about 2″ bigger on all sides.

  • Remove the paper backing from the fabric shapes and fuse them in the center of the background fabric. Stitch around the shapes with a contrasting thread.

  • Use the Spray n Bond to coat one side of the cardboard insert that came with the frame.

  • Center your applique over the cardboard and press on to the adhesive. Fold the remaining fabric over to the back and wrap it like a present. Tape in place.

  • Find a cute place to set your frame, or hang it on your wall, and enjoy!
