Howdy! It’s Jamie Mueller from Sunflower Quilts with a quick and fun Christmas gift! I needed a Christmas Gift to go along with some cute utensils I got for my son’s preschool teachers. Hand towels were just the thing to dress up their kitchens! I’d love to see your hand towels if you make any, so follow/tag me on social media so I can see your lovely creations!

Directions:

Begin by improv piecing fabric scraps together until you reach the desired size. I’m including step by step photos and here is a LINK to a video I did on Periscope and uploaded to my Youtube channel.

  1. Start randomly sewing fabric pieces together. Take two pieces of fabric (does NOT have to be the same size and sew right sides together. Trim off 1/4″ seam allowance and press towards darker fabric.

2. Continue going around until you have the desired size repeating step 1.

3. Cut a piece of Heat N Bond® ultrahold to fit the improv fabric piece. Following package instructions, iron onto the wrong side of fabric the Heat N Bond®.

4. Trace/draw desired applique shape. I chose a Christmas tree and just free hand drew it. Cut out shape.

*TIP: You could also use cookie cutters to trace shape.

5. Remove paper from cut out shape and iron onto hand towel following Heat N Bond® package instructions.

6. Machine applique around entire cut out shape for added strength and a more professional look.

Ta-da; your Christmas hand towels are ready to be used or gifted to that special someone! Enjoy and I can’t wait to see your projects!
