But What If You Fly? Mixed Media Piece with Deco Foil Instructions:

But What If You Fly? Mixed Media Piece with Deco Foil

To begin, simply take a blank canvas. For this project, a 16”x20” canvas fits perfectly to accommodate the wooden wings. Using the “Heart Lace Background” stamp and Raven Detail ink from Brutus Monroe stamp the entire canvas, including the sides.

To create a distressed look, the stamp wasn’t attached to a block or stamp in such a way that it would give a clear impression. When doing a canvas piece you want to make sure that you address the sides so that when it is on display your eye travels and doesn’t just stop. After it was covered put a good solid coat of clear gesso over the entire piece to seal it.

Using a Misti, stamp out the desired number of feathers from the “Dreamcatching” stamp by Brutus Monroe. Next, copy the images with a Laser printer and then use a Scan ‘n Cut to cut them out. Using a laminator machine, sandwich the feathers and the Silver Shattered Glass iCraft Deco Foil Transfer Sheet between a folded sheet of copy paper and send through twice. Then peel off the feathers and set them aside for applying later.

Next, using a Big Shot, die cut out a Leah- Mandala die using the Deco Foil Black Toner Sheet. Use the Silver Shattered Glass Deco Foil Transfer Sheet for this foiling technique also. Set it aside also for later use.

Using a pallet knife and stencil, apply the brand new ‘Media Paste’ from Brutus Monroe in a few places on the canvas. You can also add color to the paste. The paste will dry firm and fast. Next, apply crackle paint in a select few places on the canvas.

Lay down the wings so that you can get perfect placement and attach them using the “Mixed Media Adhesive”. Take the wings and coat them using white gesso. Next, apply 3D puffy white paint to the bottom part of the wings. Then coat them entirely with white acrylic paint, sprinkling Ultra Fine Glitter over the wings. Attach the feathers using the ‘Mixed Media Adhesive’ then put some of the adhesive down and applied glitter, crushed glass glitter, and art stones.

To finish the piece, attach the wings with a mixture of ‘Mixed Media Adhesive’. Use the ‘Mixed Media Adhesive’ to attach the Mandala foiled piece from earlier and glued the metal tag in the same way. This ended up being a centerpiece that could be a focal piece in a room or a background piece on display. Since it is monochromatic it could easily fit into any decor.
